Well I Love to stretch the limits of all my rifles and hand guns.
All my hand guns can hit a 10x10 plate at 100yards with no issue.

I figured it would be interesting to stretch out a Rim fire to its limits with accuracy and not just "lop and hope"

The Rifle I chose is fairly new to the Market. I have a Bushnell 3x9 simple cross hair design scope on now to test the rifle function, then removed.

The Ruger Tactical Precision 22WMR heavy barrel.
Next I needed a GOOD scope with enough calibration and BDC for the challenge.
I will need to find a good Bipod for this rifle as well.

the video that caught my interest- 620 yard shooting !

I am new to this and dont know a whole lot about it. But I am now on a steep learning curve.
I will start at 100, 200, 300, 400 and try at 500. Who knows how successful I will be.
Going for a 16x16 inch target.

Not sure what grain of ammo I will be using either.

22WMR might be your limiting factor. I am unaware of any match grade 22wmr ammo, which means you'll have issues with the consistency of the velocity, causing unpredictable drop at range.

Would love to see you try though!

One would think CCI/Winchester/Remington/Federal would have tried to fill a market niche 22 WMR match ammo. But we have 17 H2 and Aquila relives 5mm??

I can only assume there isn't enough demand - match grade 22lr is generally subsonic, so it doesn't have to deal with the instability caused by going transonic. For that reason alone, I would think 22wmr would have issues keeping up with 22lr at long ranges? If going transonic isn't a big deal, you'd think we would have match grade high velocity 22lr (say, 1400fps), but I am unaware of any, and if it does exist its not what people are using in competitions most of the time?

The 5mm is actually a good move on Aguila's part IMO - nobody else is making it, so you can charge whatever you want for it without worrying about the competitions price, and there are certainly people out there with rifles they want to shoot.

Some food for thought. A 34 gr. bullet x 2100 fps zeroed x 100 yds. In a 3MPH wind at 500 yds will have 27 feet ( 246 clicks) of trajectory and approx 4 feet of windage.
Good luck.

I will be learning this evening...and taking notes. thanks. ANY help is much appreciated.
The only 22mag I have shot has been out of iron sights, yrs ago .
But I shot a sako 22 rf long range , I think you scope could be a bit bigger, I was running 15-20 power, It was a 8-30/50 6500 Elite, but over 20x It would wash out on me
Target was min of gopher . The mil dot was great for that

A 20” barrelled 6.5CM at 1300M needs 17.5 mils of elevation. A 40 gr 22LR at 325M needs about 17.5mils of elevation. A 40gr 22LR with a 20km/hr 90* wind has about 4.8mils of deflection at 300M. CRPS regularly has stages with targets over 300M. It’s absolutely doable, but requires a bit more focus than a centerfire at 500yds.

Looks like a fun challenge! I imagine it WILL be a challenge though. I love 22WMR as a hunting round out to 100 yards, and was even telling a buddy last night that I might get into 22WMR again before too long. (year or so :) ) Reason I've been out of it=accuracy. I've only owned 1 x 22WMR rifle, and have shot a few others. Even @ 100 yards, the best ammo was shooting about 1-1/2=2" groups...and I think I only lucked-into a couple of ALMOST 1" groups. (rounds landed on the line) That's not the kind of accuracy that'll make long-range shooting very fun for very long...but that was my rifle, and about 9 varieties of ammo.

I prefer centerfire if I'm reaching out, but like others...I'm very curious to hear how you make out, and wish you good luck! Only time I've really reached out with a rimfire it involved a CZ 452 Varmint in 22LR, HV hollow points, and gophers. lol

your math is better than mine,..I had it figured at 33 feet. Time will tell. I am excited to get started. I will be taking lots of notes along the way.
Going to have to find out what brand of ammo and what grain works best. Its gonna take time.

picked up 4 boxes today........more tomorrow. will see what else is "available". seems to be sparse pikings for 22 mag.

Don’t think it would be much fun for a person on a 4 wheeler or sled going ice fishing to come around a corner or out of a bay. I don’t think skipping bullets down black ice is intelligent or safe. Enough problems with guns getting bad publicity without adding fuel to the fire. I like the other videos but think this one was not a very good idea.

I'm pretty much lost for words at this, every day I get more and more convinced that as a culture we're getting pretty much exactly what we deserve. How the hell did we survive the 1970's?

In the '70s, if someone were plinking down a lake with no backstop, unless there were an unfortunate incident, no one was any the wiser.
Nowadays, stuff gets posted on the 'net, and everyone knows.
