Who uses binoculars for hunting?

I just ordered a pair of Nikon 8x40 AE WP and was wondering who uses binos for hunting and what kind do you use? I've had a small pair forever but never seemed to used them because they are not eye glasses friendly. These new ones are supposed to be very good if you are impaired like me.:eek::D
 
the " friendliness" of the binoculars to eyeglasses depends on the brand and style more than anything else- i 've worn glasses( not contacts- ever) all my life and found the ones WITHOUT the eyecaps work best- also most people don't know how to PROPERLY adjust the binocs - yet each pair comes with an instruction sheet- a good pair, properly adjusted for your eyes, from a quality manufacturer, can be your best friend hunting , and a bunch of other stuff
my personal choice- the 8x40- a set of carl wetzlars since 75- but i used to work in the business
 
i have a pair of 8x bushnells that have been around for years, although i have nothing to compare them I think they are great. I bring these everytime i go out, even when im archery hunting from the treestand. Just last week i had a small buck come in to 35 yards and i thought he was a 6 point, then i put the binos him and saw that he was actually a small 8 point.
 
I use cheap @ss tasco binos!!! I also tried using a video camera while hunting from my blind yesterday, worked pretty good:D
 
I sold my 7 x 42 Swarovski binoculars and I now use a 7 power monocular from Leica - their 1200 laser range finder. It is so much smaller and lighter and I do not have any problems looking only with one eye, and I have an instant distance readout.
 
I consider a decent set of bino's to be essential equipment. They really clear up the confusion if someone suspects that something looks like an animal. All of the people that I hunt with carry them.

It also avoids the dangerous practice of using a rifle-mounted scope to identify game. For new hunters, trust me, you don't want to be looking down the barrel of a rifle at someone who's thinking you "look just like a moose". :mad:

Binoculars also help to "see" through the bush, by resolving an animal's features (eye, ear or antler, etc.) better than the naked eye.
 
I have a pair of Wind River (now labeled Leupold) Messa porro 8x40. They are good enough that I haven't had to buy another pair since I got them. They ride on the dash of the truck pretty much 365 days a year and when they are not there I have been known to strap them directly to the rack on my quad for days at a time. I got them when they first came out a few years ago. Lots of abuse in those few years and their still hanging in there.
 
I have the discontinued 10x42 Wind Rivers. They have seen 10 years of hard use and yet are still going strong.

I can't wait tho.......when Davey get's his Leica's he says I get to have his old beat up Swarovskis......lol

One day I will get a set of Leica 10x??? I love the huge exit pupils they have, so forgiving to look through and sharp as a razor.

I might ad I agree with the comment they should be mandatory equipment for hunting. I have had the pleasure of being scope a couple times and after talking to the guy behind the gun coming away scared for my life. Both times I was wearing red too! I wouldn't doubt he had his finger on the trigger trying to make antlers appear on my head.

That could ruin ones day.
