.22 PRS scope power?

Lots of people running the Vortex Tactical FFP 6-24x50 it’s pretty cheap. For hunting I prefer something a little less like 3-15.

95% of shooters are running something in the 6-24/5-25 or 3-15/3-18 ranges.

That being said, maxing out the magnification is generally a drawback in the vast majority of situations, 10 to 15x is the range with the most practical usability.

I've been running a Bushnell Nitro 4-16. Excellent scope, dials well, good glass etc etc. BUT, it has cost me points because of a lack of zero stop - came back 1 turn less than what I should have. And being FFP plane I have needed to have it above 8-10X to be able to see the cross hairs on some stages. So I am changing to a decent 2 - 10, SFP with zero stop. Will use that on my 22 and on a 6.5 PRS rifle. I have no need for anything over 10X to get me out to 700, all I need is good quality glass. And some of our 22 stages have multiple targets out to 300/350, requiring either dialing or using hashmarks for holdover, so has to be simple simple. Its real easy to engage multiple targets on 3X or 4X out to 150/200. But its bloody hard to engage the same targets if you have your scope screwed up to 15/20X to enable you to see the crosshairs, because the field of view at those powers is so narrow. Cant shoot a target you cant find cos your FOV is too narrow.

I use a 4-16 and a 5-25. The previous poster is correct about using too much magnification narrowing the field of view and making targets too difficult to see. FFP is a must for me. I need the reticle holdovers to be correct from 6-16 whatever the magnification. If use a rail and Burris XTR rings you can cant your scope so it is less than 1 turn from the bottom of the elevation, making the bottom a zero stop of sorts. This also gives you as much elevation to dial as possible. Steel targets are often a lot smaller or farther away in Center fire.

As an alternative to a new scope you could consider buying Buris XTR rings and calibrating the zero at the bottom of the scopes adjustment. I've done this on two PRS rigs and once set up works well. Plus you get the entire adjustment that the scope is capable of for reaching out.

So rimfire mag is the same as center fire then. Thanks. I was kinda wondering if 6x was too much on the bottom.

Yes, and no... depends on the game. For the typical rimfire PRS similar to the CF version, then similar scope set up. Just be prepared for alot more elevation and windage adjustments.

If you are thinking about X/22, then you need a more diverse approach. For this game, I am running a RDS and a Ares ETR 4.5-30... and I will be using all that both optics can offer.

I have not went down the .22 PRS rabbit hole yet. My friend is looking for an optic for his Ruger Precision.22 soon. Everyone has a budget. He is in the Argos BTR gen 2 range. 6-24. He just started looking however.

There will be new options for 2021 with some offering a very nice feature set for moderate increase in costs. If your friend is interested in learning more, he can contact me by pm or email.

I really like the Argos BTR Gen2 as a price point scope for rimfire PRS... especially if going to shoot in production BUT that class has changed its rules, new scopes are coming out so they may be a better solution soon.

Thanks Jerry, do you know when this is occurring? The upgraded scopes. He is not on CGN, but you can PM me info or I can pass your email to him as well.

The Helos BTR gen 2, 4-20x50 looks good. locking turrets.

How do you do that,I have the the burris .10 what you speak of can that be done with signature are do you need the xtr.

For rimfire I really like the Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25 FFP in MRAD, it has a great reticle (EBR-7C) and 30MIL of internal travel to easily get you way out past 300m from a 50m zero.

Athlon and Riton also have a similar models in the same price range of about $1K

Guys, do you think the ffp scopes are more ideal for the 22 rimfire craze going on? Or is it mainly because guys r running ffp on their prs rifles? I just got my first ffp scope. A nx8 2-20 ffp. I’m used to sfp though. What I strongly dislike about sfp is having to be at max power for the hash marks to be accurate. I don’t like running at highest magnification, ever. Have to get used to this ffp reticle now on the nx8.
