vz-58L: Am I over reacting?

Got mine from Frontier Taxidermy, and it came quick and brand new, no scratches nothing! 600+rds and still going strong!

Curtton - I did handle/inspect the 858's, what turns me off is the lack of warranty at Lever (and that they wanted 700$ ? for a new Norinco, again no warranty), and yes I would pay for shipping because of Marstars SERVICE, and if I need to send it back for whatever reason I don't have to pay extra for return shipping. As for Reliable, well what can I say, they are reliable :) They are one of the few stores I like to go to. They have answered my questions and helped me to the best of their ability without trying to make me feel stupid for not falling from the womb with a head full of gun knowledge. That is more than I can say for some stores I have been to, they don't get the fact that when I walk out I take my money with me, never to return. I guess there are so many gun enthusiasists/users out there that they can turn away business. I didn't know Reliable had both the 858's and 58L's but I didn't look to close since I am pretty much set on ordering from Marstar (I like to stick to the winners and they have been good to me). However I might just have to take a drive down to Reliable and see what they can do, I wouldn't mind giving them my business either :)
another vote for Reliable.

Great shop.

Considering marstar is the ONLY importer of the VZ58L, even if you buy it at Reliable, ultimately the gun comes from Marstar ;)

and considering wolverine is the only importer of the CZ858 , even if you bot it from reliable, ultimately the gun comes from wolverine , another good dealer .;)

thats why i like to support my local good gun store first before i go beyond.

That runs 1000% contrary to my experience. Have you rapid fired any strings yet? Once the barrel really heats up is when these 858's really take a huge dump all over themselves in my experience.

I've done some serious rapid fire with my CZ-858. Afterall, I have a reputation to upkeep.

I highly recommend the 858. The finish I don't really care about. If it gets scratched up, I don't care. It's a shooter. It won't win any beauty contests with the bakelite furniture.

If your 858 has any problems cycling, let Wolverine know. They were responsible for bringing them into the country and they're taking responsibility for their reliability. I have never even bought anything from Wolverine, but they still repaired mine free of charge. All I had to do was pay for the shipping there. Total cost to me is about 23 bucks. That's a box of ammo. Nothing.

k .. I'm new to these rifles.. been an AR guy but liking the non restricted idea.. whats the difference between the 858 and the 58L? I have also seen pics with different barrel lengths..

Thanks

Adrian

The 858 is non-chrome lined 19" barrel whereas the 58L is a 19" chrome lined barrel. They have slightly differing FCG to make them semi-auto only. Both are sold by companies with great service behind them.

Another thing to consider is that I believe Marstar is sold out of folding stocks. I have no idea if Wolverine et. al. have folding stocks left either, but of they do and marstar does not, that may add another dimension to your decision. I have the folder on mine and rather like it.

I really like my 858 for what it is. It was perfect out of the box cosmetically. It is also surprisingly accurate at 100 meters with iron sights. Now that being said it is a ##### to clean and if I had the choice I would get the chrome lined version for sure. Mine also developed the failed to #### gremlin after about 400 rds. It now fails to #### every 5-10 rounds. The odd thing is when you take it apart and cycle it manually it looks like it should function flawlessly. I guess I should contact Wolverine and see if it can be fixed.

I love mine as well, it was used but in very good condition... a few scratches...nothing major.

Here what she looks like after a few hours of playing around with it:

I just saw a CZ858 at CRAFM, it looked chromed lined !!!!
Are the new CZ'd from Wolverine coming with chrome or was the shiny surface just bare metal??

cz858 are not chromed.

the new VZ58L from marstar are chrome lined.

i bought my cz858 at reliable guns in vancouver for $650
a nice chinese guy took out 3 guns from the basement back and forth
all the guns looked flawless(paint and everyth)
but the extra mil. stuff in other cases looked really dirty
the 1 i picked has brand new looking mag.& bayo. pouch,,,
so i prefer looking at the actual gun before i buy it

Got my CZ858 from the Shooting Edge, gun looked brand new. But I got the gremlin so I'm in the process of contacting Wolverine.(Would have bought from them but they were out of stock at the time)

I have now had lots of shoot time the VZ 58. I am very impressed. Works perfectly and very accurate. Ordered a second cleaning kit and the muzzel brake. The brake did make quite a difference in the recoil and therefore the accuracy went way up. Needed the second cleaning kit for the longer barrel. Shoots every bit as good as any AR and better then COM 14 rifle.

is this a VZ58L? so how accurate was it? what kind of a grouping are you getting at 100? scope or iron sight?

I think I've gotta take my 58L with bushnell holosight out and make a proper range report to quell all this accuracy (or lack thereof) business....

Hate to revive a dead topic, but since I am looking for one of these, non restricted ones that is, how meaningful is the difference between the chromed and non chromed barrels? I understand that corrosive ammo affects them but I am not 100% how it affects them and how badly. I've done some fairly serious digging in the forum but havent found anything that clearly explains that.
