Y series skeet guns are uncommon. I've seen a lot of Y series trap but not many in skeet. Nice gun indeed.

Its funny how similar they look but no its a m1200 and m1300 police and marine Stainless. The one right has a bead sight and the others have rifle sights.

Lazy day today so I took some photos of 4 of my Model 12's. Have quite a few and most are VR or SR guns. For those who are unfimilar with pre-64 Winchester Vented Ribs I can explain the different types on another post but for this have included 3 of the most coveted vented rib types, the 2-pin milled vented rib.
- These 4 M12's are excellent condition, take-up bushing 1st notch no bolt droop
- Two Trap Guns: 1949 12 ga. low comb, 2-pin milled vented ribs
- Two Skeet Guns: early 1940's 20 ga solid rib and 1950 12 ga, 2-pin milled vented rib

There was a proto type made about 90% of stainless. Winchester offered stainless barrels on the model 12 for a short time early in production. No fully stainless model 12 was ever put into production. I found these notes in Madis's book The Model 12.

Very Nice! The 26 inch one marked CYL on the barrel is cool, they used to call it a Brush gun. I also have one from 1905 but in solid frame.
Here's a few more Winchesters. All 5 are pre-war guns.
1.Pre-war Model 42 - 26" round barrel choked Modified;
2. Pre-war Model 42 - 4 digit SN, 28" round barrel choked Full.
3. Pre-War Trap Gun - Solid Rib, stamped "Standard Trap"
4. Pre-War Skeet Gun - Solid Rib, stamped "Skeet"
5. Pre-War, Trap Gun - Solid Rib, mid 1930's, Tournament forearm and capped Pistol Grip, stamped "Trap"

The M42 was available with the 1" red rubber Winchester pad for an additional cost. If you look closely at the photo you'll notice where the "June 6 1922" patent date usually is on the Winchester pad it reads "patent applied for". These were the very early Winchester pads and found on quite a few pre-war guns. The other pre-war guns there also have the early pads. That 4 digit M42 is a very early gun so whether it came with the pad, I have no way of knowing, but the correct early pad and the fine fit and finish makes it okay with me. The pad was originally badly stained but it cleaned up pretty good with a toothbrush and cleaner.
Another point is ; Trap Guns came with the 1" Winchester pads but Skeet Guns came with the hard rubber buttplate unless a pad was ordered. Before the war and during the 1930's Winchester was very accommodating. At that time the 1" Winchester solid red pad, when attached to the gun, was an extra $3.30. The fit of the pad on the Skeet gun is not perfect so possibly it was added later but close to 85 years now, who knows.
