The new Chateau popcan is being built next spring, so no shtf or teotwawki until it's complete, please!

The dead of winter will be no problem, as I will be snug, and those trying to get here will be the ones freezing their asses off.

TikTac .308=long range,
LMT AR 14.5=medium range
Fab Sat-8 and Sig P226=closer encounters

Need some Arty!

Toronto was awesome when the blackouts hit a few years back. Everyone was partying, bars were offloading their beer supplies dirt cheap... there were people just out and about walking around and having fun.

That's not to say that it would stay that way had the blackouts continued for a few days, but whatever. It was actually a fun and worry-free experience.

Yes indeed. It's ALOT of fun! Many stores gave out ice cream for free. Everybody in my neighbour was having BBQ, most people I know want the blackout last longer!

I say many people in Toronto preparing them self pretty well - partly thanks to the infamous "Y2K" thing.

Radio service is good. Many big companies have its own backup power - the data center of GE in Mississauga virtually has enough backup power to supply 1/6 of needs in Mississauga!

Hospitals, airport have backup power too.

Many family have camping equipment. I was making soup with my camping stove when my kid enjoy free Dominion ice cream...

you guys are thinking about this wrong
you dont want trucks of gasoline
you want trucks of diesel, trucks of ammonium nitrate.
maybe some aluminum powder <20% by volume.

actually on that note, ammonium nitrate has a lot of uses. cold packs, nitrous oxide, etc...

i dont know much about hotwiring vehicles or anything, but i can take some rad pics of the explosions/fires to help when you regale the troops back at homestead about the EOTW 'fun' you had on the way over. I just wish i knew how distill alcomahol and grow green.

We all had a great time!

Your black out lasted one friggen day. That wasn't a black out. If it went on longer, things would have slowly gotten worse as the stores ran out of free beer and free icecream.

You guys make me laugh. "But everything didn't end when our power was out for a day!" Give me a break.

Armedsask has a point.

What would happen in TO if the power were out for three weeks straight?

When that happened in Eastern Ontario, the military came in to help with the cleanup.

If that happened in TO, the military would be there to restore order and help clean up the bodies.

Quotes from Survival Monkey:

Mission of the Rifle-The mission of the rifle is to engage point targets from 0-500+ meters with single or rapid rates of fire.

The rifle’s range enables it as being the most effective firearm in a SHTF battery. A semi-automatic, magazine-fed capability only makes it more so. Being that the standard service rifle of the US military is the M-16/M-4 series, it would be the most logical to use an AR-15 derivative in terms of ammunition, magazine, and spare parts compatibility.

And they chose the G17 for their SHTF pistol.

Ideal weapon chosen was the AR 15 Carbine w/Trijicon ACOG
.223 is the winner!

Are you serious? How many SKS malfunctions do you hear of? I've had at least 6 of them and probably shot over 5,000 rnds and never had a single problem. They are easy as crap to work on, have a swell bayonette for those crawling zombies and go bang every time you pull the trigger. Plus ammo is cheap cheap cheap!!

And you can buy what... three or four for the price of one AR, and equip every member of your survivalist commune. Is "Bring all your friends with guns" rule number two or number three? I can't remember.

Well if the ice storm of 98 was any preparation, I'd say grab the SKS, the .22's, and the 870 as well as any ammo I have at hand, along with whatever food water, clothing and other gear I can fit in my car then get the hell outta dodge (as in as far away from any town of more than 1000 people I can drive to with whatever gas is in the tank). That goes for anything from a natural disaster, to a massive epidemic, to a terrorist WMD attack to an invasion by some foreign country coming after (name your natural ressource). The point is that there is a very narrow window where you have to decide to either hunker down or flee, wait too long and flight will simply no longer be an option (clogged up roads, roadbloacks, whatever).

There's an argument to be made that bugging out without a viable BOL in mind is just going to turn you into a refugee.

IMHO the best strategy is to find yourself a place out in the sticks and make that your permanent residence.

Having lived through the aftermath of a hurricane (as I mentioned earlier in the thread) it did not drive the city to complete destruction, to the point of losing all community services.

A social breakdown to the point where ALL community services are lost would be something that would be more extreme than just a hurricane.

A Pandemic Flu, or worse comes to mind.

In the worst hurricane that's hit the East coast in 70 years-ish, (it was a high Cat 4) Hurricane Juan demolished trees, houses, put people out of power for days, and weeks for remote locations (took over 2 weeks to get some back onto the grid)

THIS WAS STILL NOT ENOUGH TO DRIVE THE CITY TO A SHTF SCENARIO.

Look at Montreal in the '98 ice storm. Same deal; people started pulling together. I think that it'd take quite a lot to turn most Canadian cities into a post-Katrina-NOLA type breakdown in social order.

OTOH, if the power had stayed out in Montreal for another two weeks, things could have been uglier...

It should be manditory as a CGN'er to have emerg. supplies and a plan for at home and away senarios.

My city buds make fun of my emerg. kit all the time. The mention this is their destination should there be a 'situation'.

I deal with that problem by telling my friends that they're more than welcome to, if they wanna preposition their food, bottled water, and ammo in my basement.

So far, nobody has taken me up on this. But I think it's not a bad strategy; TSHTF, you stay put, and as your reinforcements start to arrive they've got their kit and supplies already in place and just add to your numbers...

But how much fun can one actually have in Toronto :jerkit:

Sorry, had to be said.

You can't hunt in Toronto. Out here, I wanna hunt, I grap a gun and step out the back door...

I volunteer to steal the gasoline truck and start the cross Canada convoy of gasoline trucks to burn down Toronto!

I'll bring the marshmallows. I knew that spike bayonet on my SKS was gonna come in handy for something!

I've heard & read that after a month it will get really ugly in a SHTF situation.

An SKS would be an exellent weapon for survival, with the bayonet of course

A lot of people in the preparedness community think that all it'd take would be three weeks without power, water, or food deliveries for the cities to descend into anarchy.

You know how when you throw a party and tell your buddies to keep it quiet and then the next thing you know you don't recognize anyone at the now out-of-control party and your place gets wrecked? Well, it'll be something like that except those people are going to be hungry, thirsty, scared and really, really stressed-out. Do you think they'll be reasonable when you tell them that you don't have enough supplies for them and their kids, even for a couple of days, even if they have cash? You are going to be in a situation where you either submit and accept those new people and let them all in, or you fight or posture thereby making yourself big target.

You have to be really selective about who knows that you are prepared and to what extent. The best thing that can happen for you is if your city buds never mentioned your cache to anyone, (which is unlikely because they have already told their city buds about what a 'paranoid whackjob' you are) and the next best thing is them (and whoever they bring) being unable to reach your destination. If I were in your situation in a SHTF scenario, I'd consider dropping them as soon as they came into range - they have already indicated that they are unprepared and expect YOU to help them survive. Well, #### THAT. I'd rather have dead buds than living burdens to me and my family.

+1 No free rides on at this circus...

Thank you voice of reason.

Luckily all my friends in the city are from back home in small town Saskatchewan. Lucky we are all on then same page about getting home if things get bad. Luckily we are all sane individuals prepared to defend our egress from the urban environment. Luckily we all realize we must tell city idiots to piss off.

I tell people I own guns, if I must. I never tell people I have supplies unless they are of use to me.
