Hi all

Looking to get in to the 6.5 creedmoor caliber
Anyone with some first hand experience, if you can
Help me out. I have had both rugers and savages in the past
Was happy with both

Savage 110 Tactical Desert 6.5 Creedmoor Bolt-Action Rifle FDE
Or
RUGER AMERICAN PREDATOR RIFLE 6.5 CREEDMOOR

Savage has a longer barrel and is a couple hundred buck more
Any advice will be appreciated
Thanks

I would stay away from savage .... personally I don’t buy things from companies that dont like hiring vets. An acquaintance of mine interviewed for a spot at their Lakefield location and was told straight up they don't like military there . Too bad, I like their rifles just cant buy one on principle.

That was supposed to be a smily at the end. My android phone messed it up. I am just not a fan of Savage after getting sucked into buying the first version of the Axis (Edge). Absolute junk. The bolt wouldn't even stay closed on it's own. Anyway, a failed attempt at some kind of disgruntled humour.

He probably wouldn't be happy with the cheapest possible Ruger, either! Ruger Americans are gross. ;-) Just don't buy the bottom-end gun from either Ruger, Savage, or Remington. Cheapest Tikka would still be great, though!

OP, out of the two you mentioned, I'd take the Savage any day of the week. I've got a pile of Savage 10/12/16 rifles (no Axis/Edge garbage) and never had a bad one.

I feel the pain woodlotowner, lol, the context gets lost from time to time in the internet.
Personally I dont get people asking for the opinion on the best of this product or the best of that, doesnt make much sense when there are more important questions that need to be asked .
Tinkering on the Harley this week and got stynmied because the Parts /manager sold me the wrong primary gasket and even had the parts book out for ref.
Grrr and they dont open till Tuesday ;)

Absolutely correct! Remember the Remington 710?
A friend bought one against my advice and got a very rude awakening!
I personally love Savage rifles.

If you are comparing each companies bottom end guns, I am still going Ruger over Savage. As far as Tikka goes, they never made a comparable low-end gun, Tikka's cheapest is comparable to the M77 Hawkeye or Savage 116, at the price point. Easy to say the cheapest Tikka "rocks" when they don't make a comparable cheap rifle.

I'm all for cheap guns... I won't own one, but they make guns more accessible to people and more gun ownership is good for all of us.

I’ve never been impressed with the very bottom end rifle options. I think you would be disappointed after a bit of use. Around $1K-$1200 in today’s prices are where they get reasonable, with occasional outliers like the Vanguard and some Howas(same thing really). In that price range I would include the Tikka for considering. The Ruger Americans that I’ve handled felt cheap, like an Axis. My Savage 116 feels better. My Tikka feels better yet.

Already own some tikkas, how many more can one own. Looking for something cheap to get some youth shooting. So far leaning towards the savage.

Referring to the "cheapest Tikka" was a joke. As you pointed out, they don't make a cheaper gun than the standard T3.

I'd agree that the Ruger American is probably better than a Savage Axis. But when you can have a better Savage out of the box with more aftermarket support, to boot, I don't see the value in saving a couple hundred bucks. But that's just me; some people have a need for the cheapest rifle possible and the manufacturers will meet that need.

Your aquaintance is bullchiting you imho. I'd seriously doubt any company would come out and say such a thing. If for no other reason,it's blatant discrimination and illegal.
