Ranger rifles $

Nice score! $600 is a pretty good price, congrats!

The way I see it Ranger rifles are pretty damned rare. Maybe 50% of my patrol bothered to go through the gifting process, so if that’s average then there’s likely only 2000 to 3000 thousand examples in existence. They are some of the last No4 rifles in service anywhere in the world, and that makes them pretty exceptional.
That is what he told me today, that a lot of rangers didn't even take the gifted rifles! I will be giving him a knife and a box of federal fusion .308 too( he doesn't know that yet) , he hunts and is more interested in that type of shooting.

Is there a serial # range that LB MK*1 No.4 fall into? I have a 1950 with walnut furniture that I was told is in the correct serial # range.

I am sure there is, but I don't know that info,,, yet, still learning, but I bet some of the contributors to this thread could direct you in the right direction, they helped me a ton!

Got her!

I got her, although I will be trying to get provenance through Freedom of information act as others have mentioned, we typed up a letter stating he received/was gifted the rifle on the date and the serial no. Plus all the other ident info, with his ranger # etc . He signed it and a witness. I also talked him into selling the rifle pouch,, $100. So a bit expensive but I think it makes a nice addition! Took a couple pics and tried to get another of the bore but it didn't turn out too well.

Yes, very happy with it, i am in NL right now, heading back to NS tomorrow where I can start cleaning it up,mall I could do here is pull an oily tissue through with a bit of floss, just got light grey smudge from it! I really want to see how it shoots too, he said it is very good!

I have a bore cleaner ( Remington but have heard the foaming stuff is good! I will have to look for a cleaning rod/ kit, the only thing in the compartment was a grease vile!

Edit: sooo while I am waiting to head home, is there a brand/bullet weight etc. Of ammo that works best on these or is it more rifle specific? Thanks.

Privi is probably the best - 174 boat tail, if you can find a load with a similar weight flat base, it will normally work better. Keep your brass, 303 isn't cheap and Privi brass is great. You will end up reloading if you get hooked on shooting it.
