Has anyone heard of someone being flagged by the RCMP for buying large quantities of ammunition? I was thinking somewhere in the area of 5000 / 10000 rounds. Can anyone share real experiences they have had / have first-hand knowledge of if something like this exists? With all of the nonsense that happened out East a buddy of mine is saying that people can get flagged for large ammo purchases even if it is being used personally and will be stored according to the law. The last thing I want to deal with is the RCMP banging on my door or preventing me from purchasing a rifle in the future. Does anyone have any insight? Thank you.

I think you yourself should take a deep breath and educate yourself via CCFR storage regulations on ammunition using CensorTube videos.

Become informed.

Just buy it. It's not registered. If concerned, by in 1 thousand lots from multiple vendors
Stack 'em high and stack 'em deep!

See this is what I thought. However my buddy who has had a PAL for much longer and is a little more paranoid insists that even ammo sales, especially large volume, are reported to the RCMP. He used the example “Yeah right after you leave they’re going to call up the RCMP and inform them.” With rifles, totally get it but as you said, ammo is unregistered.

Wow - there sure are a lot of fudd a55holes here aren’t there? :) :)

Ya, you get used to it. Times are tough. Any dealer that would report the sale of ammo voluntarily wouldn't last long with this community. Go ahead and make the purchase. If you get called by the rcmp concerning it, please let us all know who you bought it from so we can never spend another cent there.

first off Hello and welcome
secondly if your thinking of buying 5-10000 rounds of ammo you must know about some sale we all don't so as the new kid on the block you are obligated to introduce yourself and share with us any knowledge of said awesome ammo sale, I will diligently wait for my PM

Cheers, Steve
and 5-10000 round really isn't that much if its 12 gauge 22 or 223 or 7.62X39 as these are usually all sold in 1000 round crates or boxes, buy it store it properly and who gives a crap if someone knows its nothing illegal
happy shooting and don't forget were all waiting for the source of this sale..............................

to put it in to perspective another way, if I had 40 firearms and had not sold most of these to Mike from Canmore awhile back 10000 rounds would only be 250 rounds for each one, doesn't seem like a lot now

Hi Steve :) Nope, no sales to speak of. Was just an idea I was kicking around. I see what the prices of 9mm are in America right now and am worried that the same things might eventually be seen in Canada - especially if the liberals win re-election. So I'm just sort-of following the Boy Scout 'Be Prepared' motto. I agree that ammo is sold in 1000rd crates, so I can't imagine why buying 5 or 10 of these would necessarily be bad. Like I said, though, my friend is telling me that all sorts of fire will rain down from the heavens and I will end up with Mr RCMP knocking on my door.

Well I have never been knocked on, not once ever...................... just saying
and quite honestly It would not bother me if I did as I feel I am not doing anything wrong so don't sweat it deal with what's in front of you and going forward maybe you can educate your pal with your own experiences??

Agreed. Just trying to be duly diligent I guess. At the same time, I don't want to piss him off by "contradicting" him, but if he has incorrect information that is a problem as well. I appreciate the messages!

No worries, take it all with a grain of salt, there are a tonne of good people here with good info and there are a tonne of crazy buggers as well you have to do a lot of sifting and in the end do what you think is right, the info I have given is purely my own experience and it is all correct info in my teeny little world haha

It's totally legal to buy and store this amount of ammo. If you afraid the store staff will rat on you - they might do so even if you buy a 20 round box when they see something suspicions. If you really do nothing wrong - should not afraid the police. If you do - something is more to your story.

And that is what I have been telling him. Thank you for your reply as well.

You’re new to shooting. My buddy was new too and insisted his 50 round box of ammo was enough for a day at the range, 50 rounds sounds like a lot ... it isn’t. After ten minutes he had to borrow ammo from me.

1,000 round cases are like a Costco pack of steaks and would probably last you about as long.

I’m sure there is an amount that would summon the black helicopters, but you’re very unlikely to afford that amount.

I am sure there are some retailers that would do exactly this however, like others have said they don't last in our community. When the Norinco 5.56 was big I bought 10 crates @ 1600 rounds per crate. During another shopping trip I bought 10 crates of 7.62x39, 5 crates of 7.62x25 and 5 crates of 7.62x54r. The retailer I purchased from was excellent !! cut me a nice deal and loaded it into my vehicle for me. I have also made very large purchases of surplus rifles both during and after the registry , no issues from the CFO at all. I am sure I am on some list somewhere but it does not deter me from enjoying my legal hobby.
