Source for Permethrin!

In Ontario TSC sells Boss POUR ON that is 5% permethrin in 900 mL bottles for $70. If you mix it down to 0.5% you get 9L ($7.78 per litre). I put it in a spray bottle and soak my outer layer clothing and let it dry. I did my camo for turkey season this past spring and had no ticks after, in an area with lots this year.

Most never know they were bit by a tick... And, a bite is a bite... Also important to know that not everyone develops the bullseye rash.

If you have flu like symptoms, muscle/joint pain etc., get to the Doctor for antibiotics. Early on, Lyme Disease can be successfully treated. Chronic Lyme is another story, and the outcome from treatment depends on how long you had it and how your body reacts to treatment. Furthermore, Lyme Disease can permanently disable you and worse, it can kill. See the story about Gabe Magnotta, a hunting enthusiast who died after a 7 year battle with it. https://www.gmagnottafoundation.com/about

Ontario is endemic for ticks and Lyme Disease.

Thanks for the post and map Jay. TSC , noted in previous posts, has changed its name to PeevyMart in case folks were wondering.

Peavey Mart, as noted earlier, bought out Tractor Supply four years ago. They have a wide network.

Sobeys Pharmacy has been my source for years. They sell it under the name "R&C II." Strength is 0.3%.

Thankfully it seems to be getting a little easier to find every year.

I must be lucky or smell bad enough, never had an issue with ticks.

Come hunting with me in Eastern Ontario and I’ll introduce you to some tics. I got Lyme disease 3 years ago and I’m almost completely free of the effects now. I was in pretty bad shape for close to two years though. If I didn’t spray my clothes with Permethrin, I wouldn’t be going hunting.

Does Ultra Shield last after a wash. The label says it's water based. Wouldn't that mean it would wash out? Also, doesn't the citronella smell kind of blow you out for deer?

Permethrin users, please edumacate me.

I read online that instead of buying products across the border, Canadians can buy garden/livestock insecticides with permethrin. Would something like this product, diluted to 0.5%, work? It says skin and eye irritant, would it essentially work the same way as the permethrin tick sprays they sell in the US (spray on, let dry, reapply 6 weeks/washes)?

I was going this route but just found since Jan 1 we need a pesticide license to buy the Boss 5% in Ontario.

Agree — top-notch stuff. Works great sprayed around the campsite or blind.
For clothes, boots, tent etc., I use a 0.5% Permethrin spray.
If mosquitoes are bad, I’ll fire up a Thermacell (permethrin-based) as an “airborne” area repellent.

I might give the DIY route a try, but one question would be how well a DIY treatment holds up over time, because the commercial sprays have a chemical binder that helps keep the permethrin on the fabric over repeated washings, whereas the DIY would not. Not sure how important that is, but in any case a DIY would be cost-effective enough to just reapply for each outing.

Here’s my stash:

Where do you find that aerosol mosquito shield clothing treatment?
