The Ares ETR helped me and others get on a number of podiums... Athlon also has a great warranty
So far, none of us have had to use it...

can you afford to send your kahles to Austria for repairs?
Best thing you can do is get behind these scopes and see what works best for you.
There have been enough side by side at matches that the owners of Ares ETRs aren't concerned about what they are using.
These are great scopes at a great price point. Will it do all that you like?
Only you can decide that.

I own a number of Kahles scopes, and have owned an Ares ETR. Both the Kahles and Vortex are significantly better then the Athlon or Bushnell line-ups, you definitely get what you pay for.
That being said, you are free to spend your money how you like, but if you are just going for casual target shooting, you have to ask yourself if the improvement is worth it.
I had to send one back last summer, speck of sealant came loose on one of the inside lenses. Express shipping, never paid a penny for anything.
but they dont have a no questions asked warranty
Interesting that not a single top finisher in ELR or PRS in the USA use Athlon. In fact, very few use Athlons at all.
I wouldn't expect top competitors to use Athlon. I like my athlons, but if I was an elite shooter I would run Alpha glass and pay the Alpha price. The OP says he's shooting 500 yards max, which isn't far at all. If the OP has a budget for a kahles or Razor, then thats a no brainer. To save a couple bucks you could consider the Cronus as its made in Japan and highly regarded when comparing to the Razor.
Meopta distribution in Canada is very neglected....Meopta Optika6.
