It will be on a 308/ 6.5Cm, max 500 yards, aside from the weight and price which one would you pick. Mostly informal target shooting, or should consider the Bushnell Elites series DMR etc, Athlon Eres , Thanks

Although the Vortex is a great scope, im sure most would agree the Kahles is a higher quality scope, better glass, construction, and reliability. That being said the Vortex will not hold you back one bit, and Vortex has the best warranty. #### happens and if you drop your rifle onto the scope and break it, can you afford to send your kahles to Austria for repairs? I run A Kahles and love it, but it has its drawbacks. Unless you want to get serious about long range, shooting matches and such, id run a vortex PST, just for the warranty. If you think you want to get serious, or just love great gear, id look into the razor or kahles.

Other tings to consider, Razor has locking turrets, kahles doesn't. Vortex is much heavier. You may not like the location of the parallax on the Kahles. Check out the reticles, i love the SKMR3. Either way great scopes.

The Ares ETR helped me and others get on a number of podiums... Athlon also has a great warranty

So far, none of us have had to use it...

Jerry

I heard you are a top competitor, and I am not, but lets talk about features of the scopes that I mentioned which will stand out from the rest, glass , tracking , eye box ,,etc thanks

Best thing you can do is get behind these scopes and see what works best for you.

There have been enough side by side at matches that the owners of Ares ETRs aren't concerned about what they are using.

These are great scopes at a great price point. Will it do all that you like?

Only you can decide that.

Jerry

I own a number of Kahles scopes, and have owned an Ares ETR. Both the Kahles and Vortex are significantly better then the Athlon or Bushnell line-ups, you definitely get what you pay for.

That being said, you are free to spend your money how you like, but if you are just going for casual target shooting, you have to ask yourself if the improvement is worth it.

can you afford to send your kahles to Austria for repairs?

I had to send one back last summer, speck of sealant came loose on one of the inside lenses. Express shipping, never paid a penny for anything.

You can probably find a Gen 2 Razor for cheaper than you can a Kahles 5-25. Either will not hold you back one bit. So many top shooters in Canada and the USA use the Razor and win PRS/NRL matches regularly.

If I were you, I'd try to grab a used Razor Gen 2 off the EE here.

Jerry, does the ETR have a better eye box than the BTR gen 2?

Im sure they have great manufactures warranty, but they dont have a no questions asked warranty, in my statement i mentioned if you drop and damage your scope. This is always a worry of mine. I dropped my spotting scope this year, and busted it. Its not considered regular wear and tear, so im down 2000$, if it was a Vortex, it would be replaced or repaired no questions.

but they dont have a no questions asked warranty

There's a reason they can offer you a new scope if you damage it - they are VERY cheap to manufacture. And hence, are actually "disposable" scopes. If they didn't offer that kind of warranty at the inflated prices they sell them at, nobody would purchase those products. Remember that most of those same brands, offer LE/MIL purchasers 50% discount, and they're NOT losing money selling at 50% off. Dealers also make a massive "% margin" on those same products, WAY more than on something like a Tangent Theta or Kahles or ZCO etc. It's all a great sales strategy.

I'd much rather own a product that never needs to get repaired/replaced than one that would "drop you" when you can't afford the failure.... in a comp or the buck of a lifetime etc etc. And there's a reason the TOP shooters worldwide, don't use these "cheaply made" scopes in competition. LOL. But, it's your money, so it's your decision.

Interesting that not a single top finisher in ELR or PRS in the USA use Athlon. In fact, very few use Athlons at all.

I wouldn't expect top competitors to use Athlon. I like my athlons, but if I was an elite shooter I would run Alpha glass and pay the Alpha price. The OP says he's shooting 500 yards max, which isn't far at all. If the OP has a budget for a kahles or Razor, then thats a no brainer. To save a couple bucks you could consider the Cronus as its made in Japan and highly regarded when comparing to the Razor.

Agreed - the comment was more amied at MP saying the Althlon's got them on podiums. I was just saying for competition, there are much better scopes. I agree with you - for 500y and mainly for plinking, Athlon or Vortex and the likes would be perfect.

Got myself a Lnib Vortex for a reasonable price, I was ready to send my cash to Europe for Kahles when got an email asking if I interested for Razor.

I would not touch the Razor with a 10 foot pole simply because it has locking turrets and no way to disable it.
Some guy obviously like that idea, but I cant get behind that kind of intentional limitation. I don't want to have to disable the safety to adjust turrets that are already needlessly difficult to rotate.

for your purposes the G2 Razor or Athlon will be just fine. Prefer the Cronus BTR to the Ares ETR if you can swing the price difference.

If you dont like the locking turrets on the razor just leave it up. Tangent is releasing more locking turrets throughout the lineup because people are asking for them. My 5x25 TT has the best turrets IMO.
