9.3x62 load data

I’ll be following this, I’m in load development right now with mine, I’m using IMR4166 with swift Aframe 286gr with Remington 9 1/2M primers...... still working on it though!!

I'm using 58gr RE#15/286gr Partition in Privi brass..........1/2" at 100 yards Mauser 98 type A sporter. Several deer ,moose and a black wolf............Haven't tried it but Varget is also supposed to be good.

I followed the loads developed by John Barsness. Enough Varget to get 2,650 fps with the 250 grain Accubond, and enough Big Game to get 2,475 fps with the 286 PPU SPRN and with the Nosler Partitions. As per his posts on 24hourcampfire and articles that he has written, he had these pressure tested at Western Powders lab and they are similar to 30-06 pressure levels - 60,000 psi., which, of course, is over and beyond the pressure levels that are set for 9.3x62. My rifle is a Husqvarna 649 built on the FN Commercial mauser 98 action; his, I think, was a CZ 550. Not sure at all how his loads would work out in a 96 mauser, as was used for some rifles by Husqvarna??

I am running 62.5gr of RL15 in my Husky M98 with 286gr Norma RNs and Federal 210 primers in Lapua Brass. Now, that load is over book levels but safe in my rifle due to a slightly larger chamber...you should reduce before using it in yours.

bison doable speed ...

the reason i wrote that is despite how john barsness is liked even by me there is not a need to push farther the speed of the 9.3x62 it is really potent once the right bullet is used and there is a lot of good ones.

The reason I asked is because I use the same load with a 250gr bullet. A bit disappointing to find it's only pushing out factory ballistics, I was expecting a real screamer of a load. That would be way over max in my rifle with a 285 gr bullet.

I tried the 286 Barnes TSX and I couldn't get that thing over 2000FPS. I tried everything and couldn't even get the same speed that Barnes did. I put so much IMR4350 in the case (using old X Bullet data) that I had to use a different seating stem to get the bullet to seat without sticking in the die. I even took a friend to the range with me when I tested that load. Didn't work worth a damn either.
