Actually, I have never heard of this 30-06. Is it centre fire?
It is becoming more popular, Its simply a 35 Whelen necked down to 30 cal. I recently got one and it seems to work quite well.
too funny (and true) !
No, it aint dead, but every deer or moose is , providing the shooter has done his/her part first.is the 3006 dead?
I only own 30-06 rifles .... how can it be dead?
I watched it yesterday and I agree it is worth watching!! One place I think he made a mistake is comparing the 30-06 to the 7mm RM usi g a much heavier bullet in the 30-06, it would have been interesting to see how they compare with the same weight bullets, I’m sure the difference would have been less significant!Yesterday Ron Spomer Outdoors channel on YouTube just uploaded an interesting video on the 30-06 "Is 30-06 Really as Versatile as They Claim?".

I found it well worth watching, and I think it fits the theme of this thread. The first part is about the cartridge history which many folks here will be familiar with. If you want to skip that history, at about the 5:30 minute mark he starts to get into concepts of today's better performance using new powders and the variety of bullets available. He has some discussion of ballistics of a wide variety of bullets, from 110g to 220gr, and he compares some numbers to other cartridges.

Bullet, selection, proper estimation of range.
No need to buy one now if you are happy with your choices till this point in time.

The 06 is like the nice quiet girl in your high school class, not very exiting initially, but a lot less trouble over the long haul.
It's always been dead to me. Never cared for the recoil of it. Might as well shoot a magnum if you're going to endure that much punishment on your end and mete out more on the receiving end. Personally I'm quite fond of my 270. Its all I need for all I hunt.
