is the 3006 dead?

It is boring, but every time I start working with one it proves to end up shooting very accurately with little effort.

It was dead as far as I was concerned 60 years ago... I have never owned one.

But it is still being sold and used... it is not dead - just a 'blah' cartridge.

Granted, it's not my pick of the litter either. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate picking one up to use in the field. On Island Blacktail to Moose in the B.C. central interior plus Mule Deer in Alberta, it's been up to the task and kept the deep freeze well stocked.

Jack of all trades, master of non

not fast and flat enough as my 257 Weatherby Magnum, no power enough (stopping power) as my 9.6x62

I don't need, want, or care about a rifle chambered in 3006. It is dead here.

Interesting. I've got a 257 Weatherby and a 366 Wagner...and three 30-06s.

Actually, new (tech) shoes help to clean some splits seconds off runner's times... though they are mostly elite runners... just 'sayin. :)

Young bull and Old bull are standing on a hill looking down at 20 heifer's.
Young bull says " Let's run down there and breed a heifer or two!"
Old Bull says " Let's walk down there and f**k them all... "
Faster don't mean better, it's just faster is all...

Yep.......

The 30/06 is an excellent cartridge that has withstood the test of time and keeps getting better every couple of years with new loads from great ammo companies.

If boring means reliable, easy to load for, powerful with not too much recoil and available in all kinds of loads and guns then bring on boring.

If you could only have one, this is the one to have.

Yes it is so dead not worth keeping.... to whom ever think so please contact me for my adresse so you can sand me all those useless boring to powerful, no powerful enough, not shooting flat enough, to much recoil rifles! I won’t charge you anything!!

I necked a 284 Win up to 30 cal (30-284) which is a super cool cartridge ... and ...wait for it ... similar ballistics to the 30-06:)

For me.this.was 308 and 270.....meh whatever. But I got.a.1885 in 270 with IIRC a 28" barrel....havent chronyed that but its pushing 7 mag. The 308 is still my absolutely no fly zone, for a.personal reason.

Until my recent cull I had three 338wm and four 3006. Still have a M700 heavy barrel target and a T3 in 3006. I understand the military connection with 308 target rifles but it's inferior ballistically, and every other measure is identical.

I dunno. If it's me and Usain Bolt up on the hill I'm afraid that, run or walk, he'll still f**k them all!
