is the 3006 dead?

The 30-06 Springfield has been inducted into the Rifle Hall of Fame, in the hunters and shooters annuals of all time keeping. It should be voted cartridge of the century. It's staying, I'm planning to purchase another in the near future.

I’ve had the same Model 70 in 30-06 since the mid ‘80s. Many others in many other calibers have come and gone but it is still the one I hunt with year after year. With the exception of one moose in 1997 that needed a second plugging, everything has been one and done.

Sold my last 30-06 years ago and no ambition to ever buy one again, except maybe an M37 if the right deal comes around

M37 would be very cool, for sure.

The only 30-06 I own is my fathers moose rifle- a Remington semi from the 1960's or so. Only 30-06 I somewhat wish I still owned was a Garand but I did make a considerable profit from it. It was purchased in the mid 1990's for $150 and prices went up drastically.

so i guess you have a problem with me as you keep getting into personal attacks, subtle but personal.if i see things or things happen and i talk about it .im always open to ridicule . but if a big hairy apeman grabs your ass in the bush dont come crying ha ha ha ,

Loading the 150 TTSX to 270 win like pressures ~65k really wakes up the old cartridge in modern built bolt guns. I like it!

The old cartridges like the 30-06 aren’t as good as they used to be, they’re better. With modern powders and bullets the 30-06 and many other old cartridges can far outperform their original loads. They now have higher velocities combined with more aerodynamic bullets which also have improved terminal performance. And it was a great cartridge in the first place.

Been up and down the Cal range over the years, from .204R to .300WSM. Swore I'd never own an '06. Guess what? It's become my main hunting caliber.

It'll humanely take all of the common med-big game animals, from 150-200gr there's something avail to cover those bases effectively and has been doing so for alot longer then most of have been or will be around for.

The only reason people think it's dead?

Is that it doesn't get enough love/attention from the new fad caliber crowd, or it's not the flavour of the month or current cool factor. Yup.. I said it :stirthepot2:

It is also non restricted, a zo series Zeiss optic and it would make a nice belt fed deer rifle. Too bad the M2 is now prohibited
