WK180C a 10,000 round journey

Good to know...just curious when you bought your WK?

I have asked Kodiak about whether they can provide a list of any improvements implemented, parts that have been improved quality and durability wise. Haven't heard anything. That would be useful, but I guess their position may be they don't want to produce that type of list as it may unnecessarily cause anxiety amongst early owners, who may not have yet had a problem with the gun.

I went shooting with this yesterday and it was a hoot. I did meet another gun owner who helped me get my car stuck out of the mud (long story) and he owned a WK and shared with me that his charging handle broke off as well.

Curious how many of these have to take place before Kodiak will consider sending a new bolt that has the magnetic handle. I imagine you cannot just ask for this retrofit upon request.

I bought my WK Autumn 2019.

I can only commend Kodiak for the customer service they provided me with. I tried to be the best customer possible (if that makes sense) by making sure to take clear well lit detailed pictures of any issue that occurred and being polite (especially over the phone). There was nothing but a strong desire to resolve any issue from Kodiak.

I suspect that Kodiak has to tread carefully with any changes they make to their rifle. This is purely my own belief and is not based on any factual knowledge but it seems extremely convenient that Wolverine & Kodiak separated and then all of a sudden all the improvements such as the steel rails, improved cocking handle and easier to remove rail + gas system suddenly appear at Wolverine's end. I doubt that after circa two years of making the rifle together that all those changes were only thought of immediately after the separation. But it would leave Kodiak in the position where if they make any of the changes which they may well have had input in creating in the first place then they'd be seen as "copying".

I imagine they are working on resolving any remaining issues or meeting market demand but are being careful to test any changes in great detail before releasing them to the market.

Thanks for your perspective. I too have heard nothing but exceptional things about Kodiak's customer service.

I don't know the whole history of Kodiak/Wolverine, but I would gather that it was not an amicable split and thus there may be some intellectual property/patent aspects to what they can and cannot do respectively

A .223 barrel with 10,000 rounds through it that holds 2moa with bulk pack fmj ammunition is absolutely outstanding.

I think I'd lean closer to 2.5MOA on second thoughts but hopefully that doesn't kill anyone's hopes and dreams haha.

I've decided to take apart my gas system, I might even clean it and then take pictures to share.

True North Arms has been doing a good job providing WK accessories and parts. Perhaps they could stock a bolt control group for purchase that uses the magnetic charging handle; that way people who want to try it could go through at TNA without taking up Kodiak's time.

That does sound good but they'd need to address the wear that the magenetic handle causes. It has no functional impact on the firearm but can surprise people.

Agreed, a warning : "May cause cosmetic wear" would be appropriate.

Magnetism works through paint; would a Teflon or other low friction coating over the magnetic charging handle prevent the cosmetic damage?

Can you break it apart and post some pictures?

Thank you Sir!

Click Here for the images of the gas system after 4000 rounds next to an unused piston and what it looked like after less than 5 minutes cleaning with a little scotch brite and a copper brush.

In addition there are pictures of the inside of the upper receiver after I ran a rag around and poured a couple litres of boiling water through it (It just cleans crap away)

Good to hear! I have one WS-MCR at over 5000 rounds, one at 3000 and just picked up a third that I haven’t decided what to do with yet.

Haven’t cleaned any of them yet, I want to see what happens. They sure don’t get dirty like a DI AR does though!

Dang you guys are ammo rich.

You know what from the pictures the wear on the receiver is not bad at all.

The BCG has minimal contact with the receiver. I believe that one specific aspect of the 18/180 series is that it runs on rails. You can see the wear on those but it is almost entirely cosmetic. There is some rub off when the magnetic CH was present but nothing else.

could a person just go to the "BOLT Shop" and get a grade 8 bolt and use it for a charging Handle. ?

You could file down "round" the head of the bolt and make something durable and useable...............?

One of my buddys carried this crude home made bolt with him in case his handle broke. He had to use it once.

People have indeed used the correct size if bolt as field expident charging handle. It was such an experience that inspired the guys at SBI to 3D print a grip around a high strength bolt for use as a replacement charging handle.

allrighty then. thanks for the information.

update-

well I went to the Bolt shop and got 3 different length grade 8 bolts.

I went with the longer one. I can wrap 2 fingers around easy.

I smoothed off the corners...buffed it , then blued it.

put a dab of industrial Cyanoacrylate on the bolt and tightened it in.

If I need to take it out,...simply grab the Heat Gun....warm it up good, and out it comes.

plus I keep a spare in the front hand grip in case I'm at the range and some one needs it.

the cost was ZERO. the fellow that helped was a gun guy ....wished me luck and sent me on my way. Nice !
