How to pull hair from bear

My implicit bias training taught me that using the term “oriental” is racist.
How much does hoytvannon charge for that?? Asking for my 3 chinese family members who use that horribly racist word. Oddly the only people I’ve ever seen take issue with it are whites, 100% of the time.

“ As an Oriental, I am bemused. Apparently Asians are supposed to feel demeaned if someone refers to us as Orientals. But good luck finding a single Asian American who has ever had the word spat at them in anger. Most Asian Americans have had racist epithets hurled at them at one time or another: Chink, slant eye, gook, Nip, zipperhead. But Oriental isn’t in the canon.
And why should it be? Literally, it means of the Orient or of the East, as opposed to of the Occident or of the West. Last I checked, geographic origin is not a slur. If it were, it would be wrong to label people from Mississippi as Southerners”

Asia in fact is a continent containing such places as Pakistan, the Middle east, and the sub continent of India. I use the word Oriental, because it is more accurate. Middle Eastern folk are not being attacked over Covid. I guess I should have expected to be trolled for it. As RRH.01 said above, I've never heard a complaint from my 'Asian' friends about it's use.

Honestly, I am not trolling here. I was “trained” that using that word is racist now. People of that race may use it because they can’t be racist. If you are in a position of perceived power, words like that are meant as a “put down”. Hoyt is not wrong. This is being enforced strictly now in the public sector across Canada. People from India are now “south Asian” and heaven forbid you use the term “prostitute” because they are now “### trade workers”. A slip up brings quick and righteous discipline.

Sorry to contribute to the derail. Nothing I posted here or previously in this thread was meant to be taken as a joke or as racist. It just illustrates how absurd things have become.

Very interesting, I had no clue people ate these parts. Is there anything similar you could compare to it's taste and texture?

Stewed pigs feet.

Boiled pig head. I buy a head from the local Chinese butcher ever now and again, have it sawn into quarters and Mrs. boils a quarter up in the pressure cooker for soup. Makes a perfect Korean style country soup that I was first introduced to in Korea 1973. I have photos somewhere of her braised bear paw stew. It's friggin' awesome.

Is it just me or is there a lot of nonsense arguing and trolling for no reason in the hunting section all of a sudden. Geez.... you would think that this is a cop thread in the off topics section.

Ps.. Hoyt was obviously only trying to stand up for "orientals" when he said you should say "asian's"....... Argue it if you want, but that is considered the proper term now.

Maybe everyone should calm down and get back to talking about hunting. This cracker is gonna go pour a bourbon.

How about you expand on that? Make yourself clear. Go for it.

I worked for the government and prepared reports for use in court, the term "Oriental" has been taboo for many years, we were directed to use the term "Asian" instead. In addition I worked directly with many Asians and was informed that the term "Asian" is preferred over the term "Oriental..." and some were "mildly" offended by the term "Oriental."This is generally and widely understood these days... so how do you figure that was trolling?

Yup... thanks.

Well this has sparked my interest.
I'll be trying some soap this year, never knew much about the process till this thread..
I'll have to watch a little Chappelle show while I sip my soap.. glad people are being thoughtful of others.

Tell you what... I've been living as an expat for years in different Asian countries, had an oriental/Asian wife and have a wonderful daughter from that relationship.

The amount of racism especially towards "people of color" is unprecedented in these Asian countries compare to wherever I else lived.

Now the OP comes by calling me a bigot and racist together with anybody else. A typical professional victim.

As far as I'm concerned he can stuff up his caucasian recipe as far as it goes in there...

I've seen places in Asia wher the actually snort ground claws from poached animals. Disgusting!

This book was a gift from a Caucasian friend. He has quit hunting long ago.

Recipe specifically says skinned. How is there hair left after its been skinned?

Does your observation justify your rudeness, cruelty, and racism toward another oriental/Asian hunter. Retribution or revenge?

In hindsight, I should not have used "racism" or "racist" in the past posts. Some folks in this thread were just ignorant. With the thread going on, they realized that I was sincerely wanting to utilize what I have legally harvested. They also have accepted that the way the bear paws are processed and cooked are not that repulsive. We certainly can move on from this. We all have our preferences (or biases). I never want to stand beside a person who just ate onions.

You are so resourceful that you have to google to find the photos of poached bear paws. Where did you live to have so many "DUMB" poachers to leave the evidence for a foreigner to see? I hope that you were not repeating what MSNBC would report by their "journalists".
