Mosin Nagant Raveneye sight: should we make them?

The M-44 rear sight leaf is shorter than a 91/30.
91/30 in foreground. M-44 and M-38 in rear.

Ok I have good and bad news.

The good news is that I tested the sight. It appears to be dead on at 20 yards and using ballistic app it should be at 0 at 300 yards as well. This was using PPU 182 grain ammo.

The bad news: I could not really get any kind of consistent groups. I checked the muzzle of the loaner Mosin I was using and noticed no rifling for the last 4 inches!! I was shooting knuckleballs!

I don't have a garbage rod rifle to need a raveneye for that one but I do have a raveneye for my sks and it is sweet ! 10,000 times better then the stock notch rear sight

I have given this a little thought.

I have decided that the sight itself will function well enough for anyone with a decent Mosin to mount it to. That being said, I will drop the location of the peep as low down as I can. I have taken a look at it and it will not be much as the sight slider may get in the way, but I think we can take it down a little which should help.

I wish I had the ability to test it more thoroughly, but I believe many people want this thing to get built and that it should work just fine.

Rolling the dice on this one ... production will start as soon as the new prototype is done.

Personally I’d rather wait until more testing is done. If that’s by customers so be it. I’ll hold off until a couple reviews.

It will not fit an M-44. See post 63.

Do i have to modify my front sight to be able to zero the rifle (elevation only, i've corrected the right side bias)
or your peep sight is a bit lower than the normal sight so it will zero correctly ?

We left the sight at the same level.

I think this issue is best dealt with by using a taller front sight as there is not much room to drop the peep.
