Scorpio EM332A mods - making a silk purse from a sow's ear

I would like more info on how to do the bolt nob upgrade.

Here's an overview of the process I basically used, all hand tools:
ht tps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fczCGdZG1iM

Someone asked about how these shoot; mine is okay. I had hoped it would make the 1/2"-5-shot-5-group @50m challenge, but that sure didn't happen this past year. The closest I ever came was about 3/4" centre-to-centre groups that could be consistently repeated. This was using S-K rifle match (red box); also tried using a few other mid-quality sub-sonic 22lr, but it was about the same. Even tried CCI SV and it shot about the same too; except it stopped extracting after about 50 rounds because of the wax and crud build-up.

With any of the ammo I tried, I continued to have issues with ejection (not extraction). About 20% of the brass would do a little dance right on top of the magazine instead of being flicked out the ejection port. Then life got really busy and the project got set aside. Maybe I'll try a few things this spring to address the ejection issue.

Joe.

Mine was the same. Best I could do was about ¾ center to center with CCI SV and Aguila .22 with a five shot group @ 50 meters. Sometimes the first three were all touching then 2 flyers. No extraction problems or ejection problems. Not really a bad gun for $180 bucks.

I find it more interesting to shoot out to 450/475yds... the Scorpio does really well.

I was around 3/4" at 100yds... and the cone of accuracy was superb as far as I reached out. SK rifle match is the ammo I am using.

Hey'all,

I came across this thread, and it's super cool what some of the mods have been so far on these cheap little rifles.
I just received mine a couple of days ago. Fantastic trigger, and really nice action, great accuracy. But I thought I would share mine. I hand carved a new stock for it out of my own yellow birch. I still need to oil it a few more times to get a better finish. Waiting on the mail for sling lugs so I can attach a bipod, and I will make my own butt plate as well. One big improvement is that I have no issue running the bolt. It is free and clear of the stock now.

Cheers.

Fantastic job on the stock! These rifles are far better than their price-point would suggest :)

I know this is an old thread, but I just ordered one of these, and wanted to be able to find this thread easily again. I shot my first rimfire PRS match yesterday with my somewhat worked over NS522, and my kids both want to give it a try as well. They're not big enough for an adult size rifle yet, so I figured this would be a cheap way to get them started, and something they can grow into as well.

Love my Scorpios but they will need TLC

Give me a shout if you have questions

Jerry

Good to hear that you're still enjoying them. My NS522 wasn't too difficult to get tuned up and shooting pretty good, and these should be much the same it looks like. I have a feeling I'll be setting both of my kids up with one, so now I'm on the hunt for scopes. I don't suppose you have any used Athlon Argos around, do you? Probably way more scope than a 10 year old needs to get started in target shooting, but I'd like to get them used to the idea of using a scope with target turrets, and I'm not sure I want to gamble on something like a Simmons pro target being any good. Unfortunately that's more along the lines of the budget I'm going to have to work within.

Have you read the NS522 tread? I thought it was the same action...

https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...o-NS522-build-NEW-MAG-RELEASE?highlight=ns522

Very similar... if not identical. QC for each rifle will vary... we got a few that were happy and a bunch, not happy.

bolt handle is different... the upside, once the factory knob is made into a stub and threaded, the added bolt knob makes things work really really nicely.

Polish and TLC and these things can work really well.

Biggest difference is the Scorpio will have a sporter vs a 'heavy' barrel. will come with open sights which work surprisingly well. Some will have threaded barrels which is a good thing cause... TUNERS

I just made the same post in the NS522 thread. But.
I have a Scorpio that I've only had out a few times since buying, but I like it more every time I shoot it.
Very solid feel, great feeding and cycling, very nice action.
With my last range session, I found it really really likes SK STD+. Of the 5 5-shot groups at 50yds, 3 were 1/2" and 2 were 5/8".
I'd love to post a pic of the target, but I'm out of MB for more pics...I'll put in a link.
Very impressed with the little knock-off!

I ordered two more 332 last Friday and received them this afternoon! They look the same as the one I bought when these first came out except the blueing on the previous one is much much better than the two I just got! Spitballing on a scale 1-10 the older one is a 7-8 and the newer two are a 5,,, not that it matters but that was my impression. Having said that they are still about the same as most .22 rifles under $400 these days! Looking forward to getting them out with friends and setting a base accuracy level for each one and then over the months doing one improvement at a time to see how they react to each change!
Edit: just laid them side by each and even the box the older one came in is larger!

I do a test with a good lot of SK rifle match at 100 and if it shoots well, then I spend the time mucking with it. All the rifles I have played with liked SK RM... maybe not the best ammo but it definitely was a good start.

hopefully, you got the ones with the threaded muzzle cause they respond very well to tuners

Jerry

Thanks, none are threaded, but will try at 100 to start, gonna be fun. I have a few boxes of RW 100 that I can try along with some sk etc.
What should be the first mod for accuracy? Bedding? Polishing the trigger assembly? I a, not confident enough to start removing metal from the firing system but will polish items if that will help.

Scope base is first as I only want to shoot with a scope.

Bedding is never a bad idea

Then polishing and smoothing all the areas that need TLC to make it run smoothly. Thread the bolt handle for a larger and longer bolt knob.

Trigger work.. has to be manually adjusted to not for everyone to do.

All the rifles we have played with just shoot well. Ejection, cycling and trigger are the TLC areas that are rifle specific and will vary.
