250-3000 aficionados

An almost new set of 250-3000 RCBS dies'ear with brass'n bullets and I think some factory rounds.
I would love to stumple apawn a bawrill for my Contender.

Nice score on the 99 Scg.

Please keep the photos happin'in awn the new build.
Shure sounds interesting.

Thanks, it’s not going to be a fancy build as I am keeping the original wood but I hope it turns out to be a tack driver. If yer feeling the need to part with them components I happen to know a fella looking.

I have had three or four .250 Savage rifles over the years, I liked them all... particularly a Ruger M77 RSI and a Standard M77-R... but I got into the Roberts with a really nice pair of RSI's in an M77 and a No.1... sold off the .250-3000's and then ultimately sold the Robert's rifles too and got right out of .25 cal. I just found that for deer sized game, I always pulled a 6.5 and larger when it was time to hunt, and for wolves and coyotes, I pulled a .22 cal or 6mm of some sort, as it turned out, the .25's just did not get used. However I should note that conclusion has been reached at least three times... I have a short memory and start back with them all over again. The .250 Savage and the .257 Robert's are just very appealing cartridges and come in some neat platforms... it is very easy to get sucked back into the Vortex.

Yeah, there is a sentimental attachment to the caliber which doesn’t help me at all. I also have two young, now legal to hunt (it’s 10yrs old here) that I am using as an excuse for acquiring low recoil rifles. Haha.

6mm rem is another classic cartridge. I don’t know if I could do that to a 6mm. 243 any day of the week.
I have a Remington Classic in 250 Savage. Love it.

Hoyt, if you look hard around here you may be able to find both those calibers in beautiful model 700 Classics. Just for you.

I'm a die hard CRF guy... only own M77 Mark II's, and M70 Supergrades in bolt action rifles... but have a number of No.1's too. The 700 Classic series is nice though, a buddy of mine has the full set and "no" he won't sell any of them... I have been witness to many attempts to purchase various year versions, but he has a death grip on them.

Anyone have a 250-3000 for sale? I am converting this 6mm if not.

I have on of the Ruger 77 RSI Lipsey's Edition 250 Savages too. It is a dandy little rifle that is just a lot of fun to carry and shoot! It will become my daughter's one day.

My wife has the Ruger No.1 Lipsey's Edition in 250 Savage that she absolutely loves! (She also has the No.1 RSI Lipsey's Edition in 257 Roberts)
She got hooked on the 250 Savage after shooting my LH Rem 700 CDL I had rebarreled to 250AI, with factory ammo while fireforming the brass to the AI.

I have been wanting a lever action 250 Savage for a long time, but haven't pulled the trigger on acquiring a nice Model 99 to date.
Been thinking of rebarreling a Winchester Model 88 to 250 Savage...or an older steel receiver BLR...

I have been looking for that rifle for some time and just never came across one, I also didn’t know this site existed then either. My patience also has ran out. Lol

I was going to go AI initially as well, or creedmoor but I also recently picked up a 25-06 (I know a Ho hum caliber) that will do everything they would anyways.

The 250 will be a nice shooting rifle capable of taking anything here while providing a great low recoil platform for my youths to learn on.

The 25-06 is a fine cartridge, and I have often thought of getting one built on a lh Rem 700 action to mate up with my 280 Rem and 338-06. Would be a great trifecta of cartridges to cover almost all game, the world over.

The 250 AI really caught my attention years ago after reading an article about a Charlie Sisk Walk-Around rifle chambered to the cartridge. I didn't have a wildcat cartridge, and could get Quality Cartridge to supply me with properly headstamped brass (an important factor to me). I don't believe I will own another wildcat, but am glad for this one. Still need to fine tune a handload with the 110 gr AccuBond for it. Not seeing the velocities that Ackley claimed for this cartridge as yet, but hope to try Re-26 in it and see if it improves. Am happy with its accuracy so far; sub MOA. Will even put 3 into less than an inch when using factory Winchester 100 gr ammo to fireform the first brass for load development, before I received the QC brass.

I would be interested in hearing about what you are getting.

If I wasn’t literally staring at a 250 sav reamer I’d probably go a different route. Then if need a fast twist as i would certainly want to try those new heavies.

I am getting between 2900 and 3000 fps so far (cannot find my notebook at the moment), but was hoping to get in the 3000 to 3100 fps range. Wasn't quite to max yet.
QuckLoad data shows I should be able to get close to 3200 fps with Re-26, and 3100 fps with IMR4451; we'll see.
Wasn't really concerned about heavier bullets, but did want to shoot the newer 110 gr AB out of the AI (1:10 twist), and keep the 100 gr in the 250 Savage. 2820 fps with a 100gr bullet out of the 250 has worked fine for many years on medium sized game. I am happy with it in my RSI (although it will be less due to the shorter barrel). For deer inside 200 yards, they are never going to know the difference.

Originally built this rifle for antelope hunting where the distance could stretch out a little further than where I normally hunt. Perhaps blackbuck, fallow deer, axis deer, and maybe a mouflon, should I ever make it to Texas/New Mexico, and/or Argentina or Spain. I do have faster, flatter shooting cartridges that I could use, but really wanted a mild mannered quarter bore that could still be flatter out to 400 yards if needed. Could have went with the 257 Bob or 25-06 and saved the fuss. The AI was just intriguing, and as previously mentioned, I hadn't played with a wildcat yet.
