Looking for short powerful lever action recommendations

At ranges where this rifle is appropriate the 30/30 is very powerful . 170 gr. Blew the entire brain clean out of the back of one of the biggest inland Grizz taken , 1 shot . Jack Turner - interesting read

Want to buy a short powerful lever action for going into the woods, something stainless synthetic, 16" barrel or less
Would prefer a 14 ideally
Capable of stopping anything that would want to stomp or maul me , 45-70 , 500s&w etc
I know about big horn model 89 and Taylor's Alaskan , wild west , and chiappa ridge runner, grizzly sbr.
Is there any other options out there?
Money isn't an issue, looking for something good and reliable.
Thanks!

My go-to cabin lever action especially during black bear season is my 44 Mag Henry Mare's Leg with a full length stock loaded 5 + 1 with hardcast. Perfect weight and length when wondering around the backwoods of our property.

I do appreciate my 44 mag Ranch Hand with a full stock.

Highlight of this rifle is on a moose hunt, there was still half hour of legal time but i had to return to the cabin after a few minutes, all was ok so i took my little 44mag to walk around the cabin for the remaining 20 minutes or so.
What happened was cool, face to face behind the outhouse a 3 years buck walking fast toward the mountain, just had a good sight picture at 40 yards and fired one 280 gr bullet, i could ear it tumbling in the gully, this was an 800 pounders.

44 mag within 75 yards from a 12 inch barrel really did the job that day.

It as enlighted me on the power of the 44 Mag. JP.

That looks perfect, I hate the big loops , if i can find a 12" with small loop and full stock I would buy it in a heartbeat that chiappa NSR just doesn't look as ###y. Shorter tube than barrel, and the threaded part sticking out past the sight, it would work for what I want but doesn't have the appeal the alaskan or this henry does

The receiver is a standard Big Boy. I ordered the full stock from Wolverine and the standard lever directly from Henry with no issues crossing the border via USPS. The results is the second picture I posted. I too do not like the big loop as I have small hands.

Just a consideration if you’re looking for lighter weight, when I was comparing the 1892 to 1886 (.44mag to 45-70) the 1892 is about 2lbs lighter and about 1.5” shorter OAL (same barrel lengths) due to the lighter and smaller receiver. Plus 5 in the tube vs 3.

This is mine with a 13” barrel in .44 mag

Ever consider a Winchester 94 trapper? They have a 16" barrel and came in 45 colt, 357 magnum, 44 magnum and 3030. 44 magnum or 3030 would be more than capable of deterring a bear or any other animals.

The Chiapas Wildlands is available now, 12” barreled 45-70 1886. Saw it on sale not too long ago.

I've always been concerned about the reliability of those rifles but I have to agree a 12" barreled 45-70 lever gun would be pretty cool.

My experience is the loss of velocity is minor as well example I used to have a 14" including muzzle brake so appr 12.5" barrel and still have a 22" 45-70 barrel for my Contender carbines.

Shooting 325gr FTX with H322 powder I lost 100fps when I shot them in the 14" barrel compared to the 22" barrel.

Its light weight, quick pointing, ease to cycling. Meets all your needs.

Agreed, but have a bunch of those already, the caliber is strong enough, but would like more weather resistant and compact.

Since you already have a bunch of them, consider getting a polymer stock for one of them. As for more weather resistant, well I suppose wax is the easy option, cerakote is the more expensive and better option. Not of it will make it more compact of course but a straight stock Win Mod 94 is pretty slick to carry or pack as is and with current ammo, .30-30 is pretty optimised for 20" barrels.

True, the lower pressure rounds like 45-70 don't loose much in shorter barrels.

they just got in a few rossi 44 mags and a 45 colt with heavy hsm loads would be a whopper even the 44 mag heavy loads including the heavy new federal load is 270gr bonded at 1710 close to 45-70
