OK, You asked for it ... What are the most overrated RIFLE cartridges?

I do not think it is overrated, but it is unnecessarily powerful for deer, which is what most hunters use it for.
The best part about it is the number of ads you see listing .300 magnums for sale with "low round count" first week of hunting season, usually means someone bought a WIN MAG like a REAL MAN, put one round through it, and once they got the bleeding stopped they decided hunting wasn't for them. Love picking up cheap .300's.

9mm. Yeah I said it. Though a great cartridge due to extensive engineering that has kept it relevant, I still think it's over rated in Canada. Considering as civilians we have no practical application for sidearms, there is very little 9mm will do that can't be done better by something else.
Edit* not to mention we cannot exersize the magazine capacity advantage provided by this cartridge over others, even just for fun.

Well, I have been through a number of guns in my time buying and selling. A few over rated in my mind are:
7mm rem mag. I have witnessed a number of deer hit good make it a long way with very little blood.
303 British. Yes I said it, it delivers decent power but is made in heavy old clunky guns that can have headspace issues. For the average person they can be troublesome.
223 rem. Had one that was incredibly accurate, cheap components, but never really was satisfied with it.
I have a Creedmoor on its way back from the gun dr. I am not sold on that chambering, however I have not witnessed it’s on game performance yet.

I agree with the statement about the 303.
But I would have to say the Weatherby's. Extra powder, extra recoil, extra loud, marginal accuracy and expensive. (Except the 257. That is the only good one in my books. The rest could die a miserable death and I wouldn't care).
A close second is the Ultra mags. Almost for the same reasons as above.

Weatherby cartridges.
Way over priced factory ammo, brass is way to expensive, I don’t see any advantage to them with todays more modern cartridges. I love the Mark V rifles, but if I ever bought another it won’t be chambered a Weatherby cartridge.

well on that caliber i disagree: very good rifle for a left handed at the time not very expensise, what not to like.
