I was thinking we should post pics from shooting at clubs of trap, skeet, sporting, 5-stand etc. so we can try to promote and bring awareness to those who may not know the differences between the games or that there may be clubs close by they are not aware of where they can try these activities. I'll start off by posting pics from a registered trap shoot this past weekend held in Castor, AB. It was nice to see a couple youngsters taking part, one of which was his first time ever shooting at a clay target. One of the fellows took him aside and gave him one on one instruction on a practice field prior to the first event commencing and when he felt comfortable he was assigned a position on a squad and out he went participating in a 100 singles event with two other shooters on the squad. It was also nice to see several women, a few of whom were also new to the sport taking part. The APTA(Alberta Trapshooting Association) gives all first time shooters who want to join the ATA and shoot registered a free 1 year membership to the ATA & APTA to promote participation. SATA(SK) does the same and even gives the new shooter their first 100 targets free. We need to see more of this kind of stuff in our sport so please feel free to post pics of shooting at your club or any club you shoot at and lets get the word out to many of the new shooters we see posing questions in this forum as to locations of these wonderful shooting venues, especially the smaller unknown clubs that can use an extra bit of help.
A few pics from the Castor Trap Club located on the local airport grounds in Castor, AB...

I started trapshooting a few months ago, been great so far. Punching paper doesn't feel the same anymore.

Wireless mics? That's nice

I totally agree with the paper punching. It bores me to death, lol. Yes they sure. And nobody accidentally shoots the cords when they decide to dispatch a gopher prior to starting a round, LOL!

That's actually a used oilfield consultants wellsite trailer that's been converted. They typically are made with an office area, sleeping quarters, kitchen and living room.

I should have done the math when you said you were from lloyd.
Nice meeting you on Sunday.

Same!! That's pretty neat that we are both on CGN and at the same shoot without knowing!

Here is a few from last years Alberta Provincial Trap Shoot held at the Edmonton Gun Club. The Edmonton club has 12 trap fields and one 5-stand field located on the NW corner of the Edmonton International Airport's land.

A few more pics....this is our home club located in Lloydminster, SK 6 miles south of the city on hwy 17, the highway that divides SK and AB. The club is located on the SK side of the highway. A few weeks ago a handful of members donated funds and time to replace two of the trap house roofs. We put the roof's on and painted the houses. Today the club president and myself went out and put the second coat of paint on and painted the third house so all houses are now finished. The season before last the skeet houses, fences and stairs were completely rebuilt thanks to a generous corporate donation from a local business. Last summer we had a wireless system donated by a member and completely rewired the field and installed the updated wireless remote system. We are slowly but surely getting the place whipped back into shape thanks to all our members, donors and volunteers. This is what it takes to keep a small club operational so we can all enjoy our chosen hobbies and I truly enjoy putting in time working on these projects.

And here is a few from the weekend of June 4th at a registered trap shoot at the Allen Gun Club in Allen, SK . The club is privately owned and located on the owners farm. He has two regulation ATA trap fields and two regulation NSSA skeet fields and hosts two registered trap and two registered skeet shoots each season. The fellow on station 3 in the first photo is a past Doubles Trap Canadian Champion having shot 100 straight in the event to capture the title with a Remington 1100, a gun he still uses to this day many years later. The second last photo is yours truly shooting the handicap event on day 1 and the last photo is my other half(better half she'd say ;)) walking off trap two after completing the same handicap event. Without question this is the most open flattest place I can say I have ever shot. There is nothing but open sky for background!

That is the flattest backround I have ever seen too. Just beautiful! You really can see forever (see the first picture). I really noticed it once I took my eyes off of the shooter with the wide stance (position 2) :d

Seriously though, this is a great thread. Thanks for sharing all the pictures. The earlier pictures of you repairing/painting the trap house warmed my heart. Congratulations on all the success promoting shooting. I'm a fan or your posts.

Another interesting thing is you mentioned the doubles shooter uses an 1100. To me it's the classic trap gun. But I don't remember the last time I saw someone using an 1100 to shoot doubles, let alone a champion who breaks 100 straight! He must have a great squad that doesn't mind a shell flying by their ear once in a while.

I will miss Remington.

I don't know if he modified his gun somehow but it kicks the empties forward of the line and about half way between himself and the next station. For singles he uses a T&S shell catcher. We have a few that shoot semis and there is never a single complaint when the odd hull hits someone. It's a great bunch of shooters we shoot with.

An 1100 with a knockdown pin doesn't throw empties very far at all. You certainly won't hit the next shooter.

My Beretta Sporters throw the hull forward as well. Hunting models can be a problem. As far as the hulls hitting someone, you have a good bunch of shooters at your club. Our club has a tolerant bunch as well.
