Just ordered one today. Yikes! Going to have the front strap checkered and adjustable Novaks. I'll post some pics when it's ready. He said I'd have it before Christmas. How am I going to sleep at night waiting!
I'm pretty sure Dlask makes their own frame and slides. One of the machinists came up to the front counter yesterday holding what appeared to be a slide in it's early stages of life. It was literatly a block of metal he was machining into a slide. I asked Joe if that was a slide and he nodded and smiled.
Never handled a Dlask gun, huh? 'Cause that isn't even close. While Kimbers (even with MIM parts) are nice, as are the factory customs - they certainly aren't what you'd get from Jo, the closest 'production custom' would be more along the lines of Nighthawk, and even then probably not quite. Dlask is an expert with the 1911, like any other custom 'smith who has spent 25+ years making a living working on 1911's. Factory work does not compare. No, I don't work for Dlask, or own one of his pistols (yet) but I have handled quite a few (6 or 8) and they are very different from factory guns. The price was mentioned so I had to comment on it. Seems a bit high for the total package. Frame and slide are Chi-com right? Is the barrel Chi-com too?
Seems to me that I have heard this somewhere before, right Beemer?
Buy an inexpensive Chi-com copy and dump a pile of cash into to make it work. Why not just get a factory custom gun from the guys at Springfield, or Kimber, or STI. They are all in the same price range as you quoted...
