PAL Wait Time

BC Applicant PAL +RPAL

My instructor told me the appximate wait time is 4 months, so didn't hurry. Occasionally found this forum the past weekend and read all recent posts. Called the CFO today (July 12) to give a try, and got approved!

Seems like the waiting period is much shorter now? Thanks for all the posts!

Congrats! What’s the B.C. CFO number? Might as well give it a try myself.

Currently says “initial review complete, we will contact you if further information needed”

I phoned today and got through on the second time calling and was asked a couple questions and was advised my background check was clear and they’d work to finalize my application. Within 1-2 hours of that phone call my application was APPROVED! FINALLY! After almost NINE MONTHS! Thank you so much!! I’d still be waiting who knows how much longer had I not called the CFO office!
 
My complete timeline is below.

Keep in mind having to send in a new photo literally delayed my application by months. I had phoned after they had my new photo for two weeks and was advised of a two month backlog in return information dept. So make sure your photo is perfect and on photo paper!! I made the grave error of originally printing my photo on high quality laser presentation paper.

Oct. 15, 2020 - Application mailed via regular mail.
Oct. 22, 2020 - Application received.
Feb. 12, 2021 - Credit card charged and viewable online.
April 16, 2021 - Application status updated online that more info. was needed. Phoned same day and it was a new photo being requested.
April 19, 2021 - New photo sent via Xpresspost.
April 23, 2021 - New photo received.
(phoned two more times several weeks apart and was advised more time was needed)
July 13, 2021 - Phoned B.C. CFO and application was approved within 1-2 hours of phone call.

PAL / R/PAL applicant from B.C.

I am surprised you got such a welcoming reception from the BC CFO office. I did what you did when I applied for my pal in 2015 and the person who answered my call said they process application at their own pace and question why I need my PAL so urgently. I ended up contacting my MP to get my application approved.

It likely helped that my application was so old vs the new ones being approved in much less time.

Just had my application (PAL & RPAL) approved today.

My dates:

Application received 2021-05-17
Credit card charged 2021-06-08
Early July my application status showed as "We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application..."

On July 13 I called the general RCMP firearms number and was told my application was with the BC CFO. I was advised to call back again at the end of August if there had been no change in my application status.

I tried calling the BC CFO several times July 15 but each time received a recorded message saying that the office was closed. Today (July 16) it took a number of attempts to get through (message stating call volumes were high on failed attempts). Staff I eventually spoke to were courteous and after checking in on my application I was told my application was approved. The status was also updated on the RCMP website.

My details are a little old.

Did course beginning of October. Upgrade to Restricted.

Application received in Miramichi November 28, 2020, sent by registered mail.

Credit card charged March 23, 2021.

Now I was a moron and forgot to print my name on the back of my picture. They sent a letter and I returned it by registered mail. I had to print my name on a form. They got it on March 31/21.

New PAL was in hand on June 29/21.

Do yourself a favour. If you are applying now make sure you read all the directions and review it before you mail it.

I completed my safety course in 15 of September 2020 (restricted & non-restricted)
I got the result in mail December 09 -2020

I sent my pal application to RCMP on 1st of January 2021
They received my application on 6 of January 2021
Credit Charged on March 19, 2021

Previous Status was : Your application has been completed initial processing. it is now in progress .please check the status again at later date

Current Status is: We have completed the initial review of your firearms licence application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date.

It has been 194 days ( almost 7 months )

I called RCMP twice to check about my application . That lady said everything is perfect on your file NO red flag.
and your application is in CFO office Ontario!

THE MAIN THING IS : Me and my spouse we sent our pal application at the same time to RCMP. Her cc charged on the same day as mine . but she got her licence in end of March just after one week!

I attached my pervious country PCC as requested on pal application!
NO references called yet !

IF SOME ONE HAD OR HAVING THE SAME EXPERIENCE PLEASE SHARE YOUR SUGGESTION THANK YOU

You could try calling the Ontario CFO office and ask for update. It worked for me (in B.C.) after waiting almost nine months. I feel your pain. Hang in there and good luck.

No worries. And my references were NOT contacted by the way. After I spoke with the CFO office my RPAL application was approved within two hours of that call! :)

do you have any idea why they are taking so much time ! like if you are not been in Canada last 5 years thats why ?

If my application had been approved in a fraction of that time I would have been lucky. lol But having had to send in another photo did delay my application by months.
