Looking for first 9mm

Hey guys I'm looking for recommendations on my first 9mm pistol. I would like to maybe get into ipsc in the future. Some friends at my local range shoot just about every week, and I'm looking to join in on the fun even if it is only that. I've been looking at 9mm firearms for the past few days and I can't make up my mind, mainly because I don't know all the rules for competition as I've never done it before, and because I want a gun that can be used for 3 gun as well if I ever decide to join in that arena.

So I've been looking at 3 pretty closely and I'm looking for input from people with more experience.

First I'm looking at the Ruger American duty in 9mm. It's a beautiful firearm and you can't beat Ruger's for reliability and customer service. I know this isn't a common firearm in these competitions, but who's to say I can't be a pioneer haha.

Second is the cz Shadow 1. I know this is a favourite of the sport, and I expect most replies here to say get the cz and don't look back. It's a very nice firearm as well.

Last is the canik tp9, not sure what trim I like, because it comes with a holster, and extra magazine. It's essentially everything I would need to get started.

The price point is a factor for me. The Ruger being the cheapest option of the 3, while the cz is on the high end of my budget. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, and by all means, anything I left out that you think I should research a bit more go ahead and include it. I'm not dead set on one of these three, but to me they look like the best options so far.

Don’t discount the Glock 17, gen5. Decent price, reliable, eats everything, accurate & loves FMJ ammo. Go one step better & upgrade to the truly fabulous Glock 34.

There is an example - Production vs. Production Optics vs. Standard vs. Open - that one won't be able to appreciate until one has spent time on the website and has read the handgun rules (again, assuming that IPSC is the 'purpose').

I'd say cz shadow 1.
Great value for the money, I have seen near new ones show up on the ee for 700/750, can't go wrong with that.

Glock 17 or sig 226 everything else is flash over accuracy and purpose yes if your budget is endless then do cz and have same results for more money

I will say I did think about the Glocks as well. But I have a Glock 44 and when I first got it, the firing pin safety would jam when racking the slide. Not allowing the trigger to be pulled, and unable to move the slide. It's fixed now but not because of Glock warranty, they were non existent when trying to contact them. I know I can't base everything they make from one firearm either, but the warranty situation really made me think. I hadn't thought about the Sig. I will research that a bit also. Thanks for the input guys.

If you are counting on warrantee, don't. Turnover time here in Canada can vary from 3 months to over a year in the shop; and lots of thread about half-assed jobs.

Second is the cz Shadow 1. I know this is a favourite of the sport, and I expect most replies here to say get the cz and don't look back. It's a very nice firearm as well.
This is the best of the three; the Shadow 1 is a great gun; it is common, there are parts available, they hold their value, and they are a dream to shoot; avoid the "Omega"; cheaper, but trigger is different

Last is the canik tp9, not sure what trim I like, because it comes with a holster, and extra magazine. It's essentially everything I would need to get started.
While lots of good written about these, spare parts may be hard come-by and not sure about warrantee.

For me Glock is a non starter, they are light, I find their grips uncomfortable, but the do shoot great and are reliable. Compared to an all steel gun, much lighter to handle, but with a lot of shooting, the recoil could become an issue.

CZ is common in these sports; they are reliable, accurate, and custom parts are available; as are a good selection of grips. My preference is the factory over-molded rubber grips. Super comfortable.
9mm Jericho would be a great gun also (I have one in .40), don't rule out Tanfoglio and Sphinx either; lots of good used guns out there, and all three are more or less CZs.

I would pick a CZ shadow over a Ruger. My CZ got me into the podiums. When I picture a Ruger centerfire handgun. I can only picture like p85 sure it was reliable, but couldnt hit a thing. Plus really research Ruger warranty in Canada. You find those who dealt with them hated them.

Don't push away Glocks based on a 22LR they made. Could just be that gun doesnt have warranty due to it was new. I started IPSC with a Glock and served me well. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one. Just I like the feel of my CZ better.

I have owned a few Glocks. Glock warranty service in Canada is nonexistent. I find they feel like a 2x4 in my hand. That being said when you find out that Glocks are not for you they do sell quickly and hold thier value. My pick is a CZ, accurate, reliable and easy to get parts for.

Not to derail the OP’s thread as this may help him as well, and I’m thinking of a 9mm pistol also . What manufacture has the best warranty and honours it with out huge turnaround time ?
What is Sig Sauer like for the above mentioned issue ?
Thanks

warranty is only important if you need it..
some manufacturers have good QC and their guns will just last.
Don't think I ever need warranty for my cz.
