I was asked to take care of my mom's squirrel and chipmunk infestation, they have gotten into to many places, she lives in the country zoned for firearms but neighbors along the river are a 100 yrds each way, both neighbors want them gone.but to keep noise down I'm and travell I'm going to use cci quite. It has been years since I used them. 2 ? What should I zero the scope at and can I use a semi.i remember a bunch of years back I couldn't cycle something through a semi, whether it was ceebees or something like that.what I have now are the 710 ft per sec cci quite and using a marlin 795 or 10/22 as well as having bolt guns.not sure why I need a semi any way for squirrels.

A Marlin 70 HC ( pre 795 ) would not cycle CCI Quite 22's. But you could run it like a straight pull rifle. They do make some faster 850 I think FPS Quiet 22 for semi autos. But I never tried those. I think you can play with some lighter recoil springs to get a 1022 to cycle them. But is it worth it for occasional use ?

Zero it for the distance that you are primary going to shoot them at.

Sounds more like 410 or high power pellet territory. Majority of your shots will b upwards with no safe back stop. I like quiets but that slugs heavy enough to b dangerous a long distance away

Find some CCI Quiet segmented. They break into 3 pieces on impact. You can hear a distinct thud sound when they hit. So far no squirrels have gone anywhere when I hit them with these.

I think I have some of those come to think of it,been awhile since I shot squirrels most of my hunting over the years has been on buddies trap lines and you don't shoot what brings the fishers and Martin's lol.

Gotta hit em clean in the spine to put em down quick with LRN quiets in my experience. Gray squirrels are on the big side in the country.

CCI target 1050 feet per sound are almost as quiet, still sub-sonic but a little more snap when they hit.

I can't remember the pop on the quite whether it was alot quite then the subsonic,I thought they were but goin try both tomorrow if they are close will go with the 1070,because I do remember not liking accuracy on the quite, that's why I was wondering about zero was thinking 25yrds and shoot from 25 to 50 after that it drops if I recall a fair bit.

I love the CCI quiets. I have a norinco browning auto copy and eats them up. Accurate enough at 20-25 yards! Mostly shoot rotten veggies from my fridge. I am sure it would work nicely on a squirrel. I can hit a mushroom at that distance and find the ammo consistent.

They will only cycle through my Browning SA , nothing else. The brick I have is very inconsistent, sometimes you can see the rounds looping towards the target (25 yards)

I second the idea of setting up a feeding station. I shot lots of squirrels on my bird feeders, that way you get to decide what the backstop is, I used my wood pile.

Yup same as what I picked, the wood pile.practiced with the quite yesterday and they are I though much quieter then the sv.i zeroed to 25 thinking I should of zero to 50.i gues I can do that at home with out going to range.

Question where are the Martin's and fisher, even were I walk my dog outside of town the squirrels are everywhere .at my mom's they have never been this bad.

Seems that in this case you'd want to zero your .22 on your squirrel feeding station.

Are these red squirrels? Is the OP in Ontario? Asking for obvious reasons. If they're protected where the OP lives, I have to wonder if "dealing" with them in your house is the same as sniping them off a feed pile some distance away from it? Not trying to be a naysayer, just hoping the OP has considered that angle.

I've used CCI Quiets on barn pigeons at very close range, but I don't find the stuff very consistent. Barely consistent enough to bother zeroing a scoped rifle using it. I know someone who has used a non-PAL rated 22cal air rifle to dispatch squirrels in his house, but I highly doubt that rifle would have enough oomph to achieve the same if any distance was part of it.

I wouldn't shoot those quiet 22s out of a semiauto . you said that the neighbor's are 100 yards away ? if you miss and take out a window or hit someone you might get in trouble . I think if you set up as you said a feed station with lots of goodies yum yum and put up a backstop behind it then by all means plink away . if your using a bolt action 22 you can sand down the points of those quiets or carefully file them down somewhat and they might kill a little better . just make sure of your back stop . you can set up rat traps the big wooden ones and they will smoke a chipmunk .

what I do is wire the bait to the trap with a twist tie and place the trap on a piece of cardboard . then I'll pull the trap back and hold it and with a screwdriver I'll move the leaver over where it has to go with the screwdriver so my fingers are out of the way . then let the snapping part go when I think it's safe to do so . then you just slide it off the cardboard . I also know someone who has killed Racoons with a pal rated 22 pellet rifle . just keep what's in the distance in mind while shooting . happy hunting .

I have continual issues with red squirrels getting into the walls of my house, which has cedar siding. They gnaw out the knotholes, then tunnel into the insulation. I will live trap them and move them a couple km away.... but sometimes there are just too many and I bust out the single shot bolt action .22

I use CB caps which aren't loud and don't travel far, but make short work of the little b@st@rds at close range (3-10m)
