Beretta 1301 Tactical: How Capable Is It Really

I've shot about 90% of modern semis, and ran many of them well beyond a a box or three. While I tend to favor metal over poly, I'd stand to say that the 1301 would be my choice if I needed to walk out the door with a semi. A lightweight, cheetah of a piece.

My money was well spent. :)

The 1301 really looks like the semiauto shotgun to beat right now.

The only negative I've heard about it, is that it supposedly gets starts getting tired and is best replaced at high round counts, like 40K+, but I have no way of confirming that.

The 1301 is extremely lightweight, however that results in excessive perceived recoil. It is one "fighting shotgun" that I would much rather carry than fire....

Give me a Benelli 14" Entry Model any day of the week for actual running and gunning!

1301 is my favorite all around shotgun.

It does have one weak point that I have found... the action is extra long which I really like, but it ejects just a hair too early and on occasion a hull will get hung up in the ejection port.

One day when I'm in the mood I will grind back the kicker on the left side maybe 0.010 or 0.015" to help it clear.

Other than that, it's been very reliable and a pleasure all around.

I don't find the 1301 to be harsh recoiling at all, but I use a lot of muscle tension when I shoot my shotguns, and I find lighter shotguns to be less fatiguing when shot that way.

What size shell is that happening on.

While it lacks the weight that some other platforms have, I wouldn't ever call it a tiresome gun. Perhaps it's the hundreds and hundreds of rounds I've run though a short Ithaca 37 with a plastic buttplate that have steeled my nerves...or paralyzed them :p

I've never owned a semi shotgun and with the canadian laws not sure I will...5 shot capacity restriction and 18 1/2 inch barrel requirement is my excuse..I have owned at least one 870 pump since I was 17 which was 40 years ago and I have yet to "shortstroke" one...my preferred carry gun is actually a norinco 12.5 inch with factory peep sights which are strong and adjustable...perhaps if I shot 3 gun I could see the point of a semi but I think a high capacity 870 would be my choice....to each their own and power to you but for my I like my 870s

I have two Gen 2 1301 Tactical, both have been completely reliable with absolutely everything I have fired. 0 failures in a few thousand rounds. I can't say my M4s have been that reliable... I still find it funny that people bring up the recoil while comparing it to another gun that weight at least 1.5lbs more... If it kicks too hard a $60 recoil pad tames even 3" magnum loads. Or you can hang a bunch of stuff off it and still be around the weight of other comparable guns in stock configuration.

Try firing quickly and/or in atypical positions and I bet you manage to short stroke sooner rather than later.

I actually think I like it better than my benelli m4. The m4 weighs more, kicks less. The 1301 tac feels like half the weight (its not) and kicks more. Weight wise it feels like going from an AR-10 (with the benelli) to an AR-15 (with the 1301). With my aimpoint on top and the S&J mag tube that thing just rocks. The 1301 tac has many of the upgrades for the controls that the benelli lacks from the factory. Its also a bit cheaper (close to 1k less I think). I was hoping they used the same chokes but sadly they do not.
