Beretta 1301 Tactical: How Capable Is It Really

Please derail the thread. What happened about the repairs ?

Stoeger Canada returned my call this afternoon, I described the problem and the guy said he'd get a new forend on the way. He did make a comment that it was "probably user error, but he'd help me out regardless." I asked how it could be a user error as the tab is either in place properly or the forend won't go on? He said no matter they'd send me a new one. He also emailed me a shipping label so I can send the broken one back. He told me the forend is in stock so it should be en route by the end of the week. Now I wait.

I actually think I like it better than my benelli m4. The m4 weighs more, kicks less. The 1301 tac feels like half the weight (its not) and kicks more. Weight wise it feels like going from an AR-10 (with the benelli) to an AR-15 (with the 1301). With my aimpoint on top and the S&J mag tube that thing just rocks. The 1301 tac has many of the upgrades for the controls that the benelli lacks from the factory. Its also a bit cheaper (close to 1k less I think). I was hoping they used the same chokes but sadly they do not.

Same here. The m4 was a “never sell” keeper until the 1301 came along.

I started down that road with the Beretta A400 Xtreme (top in pic) — rightly or wrongly concluded it was the best waterfowl/ clay semi for under $2K — liked it so much I bought the 1301 (same basic gun/ gas system).

Compared with the m4, it’s pretty much a coin flip depending on the attributes the user values. I’ve heard the 1301 is a tad faster, but they seemed equal to me in that respect. Maybe that was me though — I’m no Jerry Miculek.

The heavier m4 seems more toughly built. The 1301 is very light but the penalty might be a less robust gun, with the recent post a good case in point. I’ve never had a problem but I also replaced the forend with the Aridus/ Zhukov so I could use the MLOK.

The m4 does kick a little less (and the pistol grip helps) but someone thinking of buying the 1301 probably shouldn’t get too hung up on that since both gas systems (ARGO m4/ Blink 1301) soak up recoil really well, making either one gentler to shoot than a typical pump, or an inertia-driven semi like the Browning A5. Since fit affects felt recoil, another option is to do what I did and use the Aridus adapter for a Magpul stock, which you can tailor fairly well.

Old habits die hard, so I still think of the m4 as the king of tactical shotguns.
Actions speak though — in the end I sold the m4 (^EE pic) and kept the 1301.

What a turn of events, a discreet nailer biter that post. Keep the witty banter coming. I need to be talked into a 1301 in OD Green -if they will ever come in.

My wife and I got to play with an M4 and 1301 Tactical side by side last week. Wasn't long before the Beretta was causing her too much discomfort for her to keep going with it. This was with 1 1/8oz bird shot. The M4 was no problem for her, even with her beat up and red shoulder after the 1301. We swapped back and forth for awhile until she just couldn't shoot the 1301 at all anymore. To me it was a blast, and very comfortable, until I got the to Federal 00 Buck. That's when I really noticed the difference between the M4 recoil and the 1301 recoil. I shot out a box and that was enough for me with the 1301. It's nice and light, and I agree, much better to carry than to shoot. She initially liked the idea of it being lighter but at the end she said "I'd rather it be 2lbs heavier".

The "LTT package" really improved my shooting experience with the 1301.
It does add a bit of weight to the thing so it's more bearable. I would say it places it between the stock 1301 and stock M4. Still cheaper than an M4 tho.

Put the Beretta Kick Off Stock on the 1301 Tac and you've solved your issue with the recoil pulse. And still have hundreds left for ammo.

Know of a place that has the kick off in stock? That definitely looks like it might be the cleanest option.

In stock not off the top of my head, I would try Al Flaherty's and Stoeger Canada

The forend from the A400 also works on the 1301T if you don't like the aggressive checkering.

This would be the way I would go if I were not using a pistol grip setup, don't need a special adapter like the magpul/aridus setup and in my opinion a better set up and you don't have "another LTT"

This is from a member on Beretta Forum, comparing his Benelli M4 to the 1301T after he stock change.

Knowing how close the recoil it is between the two, I decided to put that A400 KickOff stock on the 1301. WOW what a difference. I went to the range expecting to only shoot about ten rounds. I wound up finishing off the box and then shooting a box of rifled slugs the next day. I couldn't even tell that I had shot it later or the next day, unlike previously.

When I put the KickOff stock on, I opted to use a MicroCore butt pad as well. The whole setup added a whopping ¼" to the LoP and overall length of the 1301 (not including butt pad). As I've mentioned elsewhere, after my first outing with the 1301 Tactical, I was sure that I was going to add the small spacer to the stock because the LoP was just about that much shorter than I would like as a minimum. The KickOff stock and MicroCore almost equal that exactly.
