Hey guys,

So i just got out of a Quantitative Methods exam...although most of my time was spent on pondering this question: (its quite involved..if only i put this much thought and time into studying and writing this exam!)

First of all...im not 12(6)....but!...

if i could get a ppk in .380ACP, and get it re-barrelled or a lengthened barrel to meet the 105mm guideline before shipped to me...would that make the government happy?

now i know what you're thinking...a tiny ppk with a 4.1" barrel (or longer) on it would look pretty retarded right? here's the second part...

i get the lengthened/exposed barrel covered in a tube, that will resemble a silencer (yes im goin for the james bond look) but will provide absolutely NO sound supression.

in theory it seems to satisfy all necessary laws...which is why im askin the question..please point out any laws ive missed!

and my biggest question is..if this is in fact legal...where do u think i could get this done...im sure it would be a fair bit of $$$ but im just tryin to get an idea for it...i think it would look pretty cool.

lastly...if this post does conflict with any CGN rules...im very sorry, and would be happy to remove it

Chris

You would have to get it done before you could get it. You would then be buying a restricted rather than a prohib.

I am not an expert but as long as the barrel was lengthened by a qualified gunsmith & the paperwork done to take it into the restricted class, you would be okay. Caliber is fine at .380 ( (9mm Kurtz ) so I think you would be good to go.

As far as the " silencer " as long as it is non functional then again (IMO ) you would be fine.

If you get it done let us see the final results.

Good luck with the project.

I was thinking the same thing. I know you can't do it with the 25acp. but with the 380 and 22lr could happen.

I found a Walther PP in .380 at a gun shop and had the barrel lengthened. It does not look too silly with only about 1/2" of barrel protruding. If you do the same to a PPK then you'll have about an inch sticking out which starts to look akward. I have also had a Beretta 1934 in .380 and a Llama XV in .22 done. Depending on the gun you should figure on about $150 for the work and then a few months to get everything re-classified and re-registered. Here's a pic of my artifically extended PP!

Halger: I think they mean "Get a barrel that is over 105mm made for it, and have the end of the longer barrel threaded for use with a fake can"

Threading the bit of barrel protruding from the slide of a .380 PPK, will do nothing to change its 12(6) status.

i know that, its a solution to his overly complicated fake can idea thing, used in conjunction with the longer barrel, you couldnt do it with the normal barrel as it doesnt stick out

somebody did the extended barrel thing with a Makarov - it looked really good, would have looked even better with threading (going for the KGB look)

Here's a pic of my 12(6) PP for comparison purposes...

If you are planning to have the fake suppressor on all the time you may want to extend the barrel the whole length of the suppressor. Remember to consider higher sights as most cans will be too high to use the regular sights. This would be a great project in 22lr as well;) I am lucky enough to have the 12.6+ 32acp PPK/S, but a fake suppressor with an extended barrel in 22lr would be a cool second PPK/S:D

thats a good idea, but i agree with the .22 not using a .380

I used to have a ppk in 380 made in west germany for years, but while gun was in long term storage at wholesale sports, and part of the inventory as annually audited (didn't shoot for a number of years, and did not realize i had to re register the gun again) so no prohib grandfathering for me

can you tell us what you mean by getting barrel lengthen?

is that two barrel pieces reattached? didn't think they can do that

or do you mean buying a long barrel and cut it down to restricted

like the other members, would like to try what you did, and more particulars on this would be dandy!!

You can either have a piece soldered on to make the retricted length or have the prohib barrel removed and a new restricted length barrel installed, the new barrel is the better option INHO

Your question should be to 'Snow Dog'... he has the Walther PP with the longer barrel that makes it 'restricted'.... my Walther has the factory barrel and is 12(6)......... sorry to hear about your PPK, btw.......

IIRC, you can only replace the original 'prohib' barrel with a longer 'restricted' barrel, you CAN'T put an extension or "solder a piece on" the original barrel & get it reclassified as 'restricted'...............

Yes I stand corrected...the old prohib barrels I belive must be turned in!
