I have a Chinese factory 316 sks that I've dated to around 1970.Excuse the cosmoline it's had less than 100 shots through it. Anyways I took some pictures and hopefully someone can tell me if this chamber is chromed or not.

the bore is chromed but the chamber might not be. best way to test that is to do the cold blue test on it.

what is the cold blue test? i know of another sks with its chrome lined status in question.

are sks with chromed bores but unchromed chambers common?

To check if the chamber is chromed, you clean chamber and put a fews drops of cold gun blue. If the metal darken then mean is not chromed. To answer your second question, Yugo sks's dont have chromed bore and chamber, some early chinese dont have chrome chamber, russian made SKS dont have chromed chamber and also the early russian sks's didnt have chromed bore either.

actually, all chinese have chrome bore but not all have chrome chambers, the early ones are non-chrome.
