Rimfire scope on a centerfire rifle ?

I have never tired that. I am sure that I would if it was a Leupold or similar - not so sure about many other "discount" scopes. Obviously will be a parallax issue for any distance shooting, I would think, for those that do not have AO. I have Leupold VX-1, VX-2 (has AO) and VX-Freedom marked for rimfire - all have 1" body - was under the impression that was about parallax setting only - I just do not know if the guts are the same or not? Long ago my Dad tried to install a Weaver .22 scope (side mount) onto his M1917 30-06 - those had really minimal eye-relief - and it was solidly fogged up inside the first time he went hunting, so it was promptly removed - I am talking 1950's or 1960's, or so. Might be worth a PM to Korth to find out about the Leupold scopes - I have no clue who to ask about other brands - what, other than parallax, is different between rimfire and centre fire scope?

With Leupold the only difference between rimfire and center-fire with the equivalent model is parallax; safe to use on center-fire.

A good scope is a good scope, powerful Springpowered air rifles are tough on scopes due to the forward and rearward recoil impulse.

thank you for your help. I was pretty sure it would be okay but better to at least ask and see what others think.

As mentioned - I have not tried that, and do not know anyone else that has tried - so let us know how that works out - if you go ahead and try. Would be "nice to know" if it works or not!!!

I have a Bushnell rimfire scope I know I know . But it is what I have in a variable power scope this is not otherwise in use. I also have an older Weaver 2.5 with a post just in case, this scope is like a tank , been on my 9.3 for a few years never failed. To be mounted on a Benelli R1 - 3006. Shots are inside 50 yrds. So we will see what happens.

Older weaver 2.5x - I think was exactly what Finn Aagaard had on his second Win 70 375 H&H. His wife Berit took a Cape Buffalo with that rifle/scope several years ago - 50th Cape Buffalo since the Aargards owned it - from 1950's? (I think) - as you say - "scope is like a tank". Not sure about reticle though - the old boy may have had the thin cross hairs. I am a no-body, but I prefer the post and cross hair reticle in the old Weavers. For the record, from pictures, Aagaard used the big knob, old school Weaver mounts, knobs on the right side of the rifle.

My own 9.3x62 Mauser has a Leupold M8-3X with Duplex reticle - like peanut butter and jam, I think.

well I finally got out to shoot. First was the Bushnell Rimfire scope in ARMS QD rings ( not the prettiest rings )set at 3x. Fired 10 rnds. removed that scope and put my old Weaver 2.5 with post fired 10 rnds. Then switched back to the Bushnell fired 5 rnds. POI was the same no change. Then back to the Weaver same thing no POI change. Granted this was shooting at 50 yrds. but that is longer that most shots where I hunt. I think the Bushnell did fine but time will tell. I was going to hunt with my .300 Savage as I did last year but it is out getting some work done and won't be back. So 30-06 it is.

That was a good way to try it - way less likely to fall apart for 16th round, than on the second round. As you gain experience, would expect risk of failure to get less and less? And sounds like you have a "back up" replacement, with a replacement mounting system that works. I can not help but recall a story by Ross Seyfried though - very experienced shooter and guide - his client (I think?) touched off a round at a lion - big ball of swirl - and no cross hair left within Seyfried's scope, when he stepped up to finish it - just "curlies" hanging from edges. Long afterwards metallurgical analysis discovered an occlusion within the steel wire of his cross hair - so quite clearly "chit happens" even when most all pre-prep has been done. I think he did get that lion - simply by guessing where centre of field of view was. He was telling that story on a video, so the lion did not get him...
