The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

I used an adjustable Odin heavy AR15 buffer and a rifle length buffer spring, because that was what CSC had on the shelf when I was shooting the rifle at their range. The Odin is just slightly heavier than a H3, which is what the rifle should have come with from factory.
A couple of guys here run the Odin 9mm buffer that's up to 7.Xoz, and it worked well for them at max weight.
The heavier buffer made an enormous difference. Instead of recoiling like a 223, it's closer to a 22 mag. Doesn't beat the hell out of the rifle, and stopped all of my double feeds and stovepipe issues instantly. Still not quite as smooth on recoil as a JRC with the same ammo, but it's not far off.

Gotta keep a close eye on when dealers get them in. Last run sold out in hours and they had over 40 rifles when I checked. Friday is a good plan, but when they are in stock may not fit your plans.

I called Wolverine last week, and the person on the phone wasn't really able to provide me a definitive answer to which stocking dealers are getting these. He just said their stock of these were shipped out to the stocking dealers. I said which ones and he said he didn't have that information, so I suggested well, FOC and Selecting Shooting Supplies got them and he said he believed those were it. I did find out subsequent to this that Bullseye North had the big batch in this weekend, and before that, Red Deer Shooting Centre had a few.

I did confirm last week with G4C that they weren't getting any in.

It would certainly be nice if there was some sort of distributor notification like what North Sylva does to give a heads up of what is going out when and which stock dealers are getting the items. That would save a lot of searching at various retailers, some of them aren't the target of shipments.

That being said we can be hopeful. At the beginning of the year, Wolverine didn't believe that FO was sending anything to Canada this year - so a nice surprise we got these. Hopefully the nature of how quickly they sold out will be an impetus to FO to get more into Canada going forward.
 
I am prepping excitedly for the receipt of my FX9 in the mail...am reading the online manual on this...

Very curious why Freedom Ordance is recommending the use of 115gr ammo and predominantly FMJ. I use mostly 147gr and the occasional 124gr. Has anyone determined whether this is an absolute requirement, and if so, why? Or is this just for initially? It is interesting they recommend specific brands of 115gr., most of which are considered by many fairly low quality brands. If this is also true, I guess the rifle is not meant for defensive purposes as not a whole lot of defensive ammo come in 115gr and even if that's the case, none of them are FMJ...

Perhaps the 115gr is only for a "break in" period. Weird, because I haven't seen this in any other gun I own, that the manual stipulates specific kinds and grains of ammo.

I also read that many of these arrive dry and that lubrication before use is highly recommended. Does this apply to older versions or do the newer models/iterations come dry?
 
Can anyone comment on the trigger reset and how it works in this rifle? When dry firing mine the trigger breaks and releases the hammer but then trigger stays back and will not "let off" until I manually rack the bolt with the charging handle. Is this normal? I would expect after firing I could release pressure on the trigger and it would reset to it's ready to fire position. Haven't had a chance to fire it yet and this is my first experience with a blow back 9mm.
 
Was looking around a bit but couldn't really find an answer. From pictures I see it looks like the FX-9 comes with anti-walk trigger pins out of the box is that correct? Any reason to get something like kns anti-walk/rotation pins? Also curious if anyone in the thread has bought the 8" kit from wolverine and if it works fine with the 18.5" version's lower.
 
Took my FX-9 out for the first time, was a blast, shot my barnaul wonderfully, not a single failure. The only issues were it doesn't seem to like locking back on my stock G17 mags and the other issue was man.. I don't know if it's the ammo i'm shooting or i'm not used to straight blowback systems, but I was getting quite a bit of gas blown back into my face, I tried to do a magdump and my eyes were watering.

Is this pretty common? Would a heavier buffer alleviate this issue maybe?

I have put a lot of different brands/types of ammo through mine and had no issues with gas blowing back, I have the stock buffer in there so I can't speak to that.
As far as mag, mine does not like my 10rd OEM Glock mags or my 10 rd ETS mags. How ever it functions flawlessly on Magpul pinned mags, I have a mix of the 19,17,20 and 27 round mags and they all work great, they are the only ones I use in the FX9 now.

And yes, run them wet.

Part of it is the blowback action, yes.

Then part of it is you're shooting steel cased ammo. It doesn't seal the chamber just as good as brass, so more gases your way.
 
So any of you checked your FX-9 BCG? I found a seam in the groove right next to where the firing pin is housed in both my FX-9 BCGs (one from RDSC with the rifle and one from Wolverine Supplies with upper kit) and I can see the firing pin spring through it. Might got overmilled in the manufacturing process or something. Currently contacting Wolverine Supplies and RDSC to see if they can do something about them. will keep you guys posted.

[Thank you for your email, we do get questions about this from time to time. What you are seeing is actually very normal and standard. The statement below comes directly from Freedom Ordnance -

“The design has a very thin wall (.007”) which can be cut through even when the parts are to spec. The cut into the firing pin pocket is not a problem and will not cause any problems with the function of the firing pin. It may require you to take down and clean the firing pin pocket approximately every 10,000 rounds or so, which should be done more often than that with regular maintenance.”]

So I guess it's not an issue.
 
Just unboxed mine from Bullseye.

Unfortunately, no mag included as I read on their website (I contacted them, apparently its a typo).

My CH is extremely loose in its pocket tho. Anybody else have this problem ?

Interesting, mine came from RDSC and came with a magazine, I was under the assumption they all did.. And for the CH, do you mean with the bolt forward or locked back?
