Ok, So I have found a new love for Rem 600/660's and I Just purchased this little 600 in .308 on line (not this site) and had it shipped to find the seller didn't represent the rifle very well in poor photos and failed to disclose any issues with it. I did ask if there was anything I should know. Now think (know) I overpaid. lessen learned. Ask more questions and get lots more photos
Issues so far
1. Not factory safety leaver (Maybe from700?) that's bent, cracked and scraped the finish off the bolt from contact.
2. Bolt appears to be coming down to far or bent and is denting stock (what could cause this?) my 660 has lots of stock clearance 1/4"
3. He did inform me the stock has been shortened (13" LOP, To short for me) but looks like with an angle grinder and lots of other damage
4. Box magazine not accepting rounds, but think i have that figured out.
5. Triger guard is warped but expected that
6. Ceracoat is just Ok, overspray on bolt, thin in places and barrel end not good
It was going to be a backup moose/bush gun anyway (I already have moose/deer/coyote rigs) . Keep in mind I haven't shot it yet. I'm not going to just sell it off to make it someone else's problem/project.
A. Fix the safety and let it collect dust in Safe (cheapest)
B. Re-barrel it with a cheap take off 700 Barrel maybe 308, used replacement stock, low power scope.
C. Order Boyd's stock (or similar), Maybe a Timney Triger, Aluminum Guard, Leupold scope, New Stainless Barrel (20"-22") in Maybe 260, 284, 338, 35 Rem, 358, 450 BM (308 Family) and make a real project out of it (Most $$$ and some time)
So now what do I do with it? Opinions? Surjections Welcome! I'm Not a gunsmith by any means but like to tinker around.
Might post a wanted ad on EE for parts
