A summary of 5.56 / 7.62x39 Black NR Rifle Options and Prices (Dec 2024)

Bratwurst, I just wanna say thank you for this post.

It made me go down the rabbit hole for my next purchase. At first I was eyeing the JR Carbine, then the FX9, then I thought well the MCR just seems overall better quality. Well I think I've finally settled on the IWI X95.

Just wondering what are your thoughts are on someone who wants to buy a high quality black rifle in Canada at the moment?

In my opinion the X95 just seems better quality straight out of the box without any upgrades, comes with iron sights, lacks many of the issues the other rifles have, doesn't need a trigger replacement out of box, and the ergonomics seems much better. Essentially I'd spend just as much turning any of the other rifles I looked at into a comparable shooter.

Just looking for anyone else's thoughts!

Hi Marlon, I need to know a little more about what your budget is and what you want from this rifle before I can say what I think about your choices.

Hmm... Poly's new list, looks like your list...

Honestly the more research I do the more my budget increases lol. At first I didn't want to spend more than 2k, but after realizing the inferior quality of the FX9 and such compared to the X95, I feel like spending up to around 3k isn't a huge deal. I've been looking on the EE and looks like an X95 could be had for 2600$ all in which isn't all that bad.

As per the original post of this thread:
2. If you are thinking about mentioning anything about "giving the grabbers a list" slam your head against a wall as hard as you can until you realise that these people are actually capable of going on websites and yes they can read.

If that wasn't your intention then fair enough. The quality of this poster is just awful, honestly I'd genuinely be ashamed if my 8yr old produced this with Microsoft Paint

If you're looking to buy high quality then you won't go wrong with the X95 or a B&T APC.

I'll take a look at the B&T as well then. Thanks for the input Bratwurst!
Jakkusch - Was looking at a few shops online, that seems to be a good deal. Don't have the funds to drop 3k+ just at the moment (Christmas, lol). I might even go with the EE to save the tax. Hoping to score one in ODG. There's actually one posted in ODG on there currently for 2600$ with a few upgrades. Actually a pretty good price in my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys!

Two updates for you. The WS-MCR has gone up in price $1599, to account for increases in supply costs, but now comes with the svelte, beavertail grip compatible Spec 180 lower as the factory default. This is a welcome change, as the lower has proven popular, and functionally the firearm will no longer have sharp edges around the pistol grip to dig into the hand.

Feedback from forum members has indicated the J180 is not true direct impingement, but instead uses a Stoner gas system, with the gas being exhausted outside the firearm through the casing ejection port via two small holes in the BCG when the BCG moves forward. This is a good thing, as it limits the detritus that gets deposited into the receiver to an amount similar to a standard AR-15. The ergonomics are a sore spot, with the word "brick" being tossed around, but functionally the reports have mostly been positive. One user did not use lubricant, and had several issues it the first hundred or so rounds, but then the rifle began to function without issue. Users lubricating it in a similar manner to an AR-15 out of the box have not had the same initial issues, and have had the firearm work consistently well. One user says he prefers the recoil impulse to that of the WK, as it feels closer in impulse to his imprisoned buffer-tube recoil spring style Stoner firearms. The only other complaints are that it uses a sharp bolt as an magazine over-insertion stopper; if you shove the magazine in to hard, you can scrape the mags finish on the bolt, and that it cannot use an A2 style stock without some serious Red-Greening. Sylvestre has ordered another round of build kits; after those sell, they intend to bring in full rifles, and the fourth shipment should have some larger circumference bolt build kits for 7.62x39 mm goodness. Stay tuned! :)

Just saying... The government knows what they are doing. When round 2 comes everything in that list will be prohib in one stroke of a pen. They will tie all loose ends up. So I don't know why you would go buy something that is going to be a paper weight in a few months.

Because living in fear is for nerds ?
The cringe coomplier vs the Based Firearms enjoyer .

Not liven in fear. Speaking from experience from the same sh!t that happened in the 90’s.

I assume that since the 90s you haven't bought a single gun then because quote:

- Rebel Rouser, 1990s, probably

"No don't buy that gun it's gonna get banned in a month or two anyway"
- Rebel Rouser, May 2020 (18 months ago and still no sign of the paid confiscation plan)

Instead of spreading fear or just telling people that what they are doing is pointless get a grip and help people enjoy themselves.

p.s. "I'm just being realistic" is just an excuse used by downers to be downers

Because the government won’t know about that paper weight. In theory.

Again history repeats itself. In the 90's they just when to all the gun shops and got the sales records. If the store didn't comply, they just threatened them with pulling their firearms business license. Hence why the Liberals brought back the white book that you sign with ever firearms purchase. You ever wonder why they did that?
