Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and comments so far.
While I appreciate the recommendations for wildcats such as the .221 Fireball, I really don't want to deal with all the fussing that accompanies a wildcat, been there, done that, no longer want the T-shirt.
I am only considering an off the shelf rifle with readily available ammunition and components.
It’s about range, the 22 caliber boasts a much larger ballistic coefficient than the .17’s
17 Hornet 20gr Vmax (BC .185) @ 3650 fps
+/- 2" Maximum Point Blank Range = 272 yards
200y velocity = 2625 fps
200y energy = 306 ft-lbs
22 Hornet 35gr Vmax (BC .109) @ 3100 fps
+/- 2" Maximum Point Blank Range = 209 yards
200y velocity = 1660 fps
200y energy = 214 ft-lbs
22 Hornet 45gr SP (BC .202) @ 2665 fps
+/- 2" Maximum Point Blank Range = 209 yards
200y velocity = 1900 fps

Does 22 K-Hornet fit in this mix?
