Smokeless powder in M/L = ?

Hi Itanski

Not that long ago on Tobey Bridges (High Performance Muzzleloading) site, he featured his Savage ML blown all to hell - right at the breech plug threading. The pic's are gone, but he had a real axe to grind with the Savage people about design and cutting corners for production purposes, etc. It was a scary mess.

I read about the catastrophic failure of TB's gun before buying my 10MLII.
Evidentally he had been shooting the 10MLII for Savage for quite a while ( thousands and thousands of shots),with no problems but shortly after running into some sort of financial / contractual disagreement,,his gun mysteriously blew appart.

Strange how that can happen...I hear he's still shooting one though !

All I can tell you is that mine shoots great and has many advantages over conventional BP rifles.
 
So...

AFTER VIEWING THOSE PHOTOS...

I made some research and still decided to BUY the Savage 10ML-II...

Please do not say that I am a crazy man... I think that this ML is THE ML of the future...

EVEN after seeing those pictures, I bought this wonderful gun... And many of black powder men, like Nessy know me...

This is NOT a black powder ML... It is something else... I have about 1,000 rounds throuh this gun and I am still alive...

I can show you many photos of BP blown powder gun ( and you surely have seen some, don't you ...??)

The photos that you are seeing... those are photos IMO of too much powder with too much resistances ( subs, etc...)

Believe me or not... This is the ML of the future...

TWO HUNDRED (200) YARDS ( not bad, hein ??...) ...and the scope needed to be adjusted.... This was fired to check for grouping only...

I remember seeing that as well. Regardless, it goes to prove that ML'ing can be dangerous. Admittedly, I was surprised to see images of a Savage, especially given the numerous threads and countless posts about failing Spanish products. It would be interesting to view those pics if anyone had some archived.

"...a double charge of 4227..." Another fast burning pistol powder. Usually used in .44 mags. Works really well out of a .30 Carbine though.

After reading about all the advantages of using a smokeless ML. I should mention the only advantage shooting a real smoke pole is that when you miss the deer (which we never do). The deer can not see where it is going because of the smoke and it will have to stop so and you can reload, and shoot again? Most of our misses the deer run into a tree because of the smoke. Merry Xmas or should I say Happy Merry What Ever Holidays.

What did the Autopsy indicate ( bullet performance ?)

I did not recover the bullet; the in-out wound was just like the ones with my 30-06 gun with a 180 grains bullet.

Shot at 225 yards. Through both lungs. Fell at 15 yards. And my blood pressure was over 200 !!

Shot about one mile in the woods (gr...): 3 hours to get him out. What a magic day and what a wonderful ML.

Yes,,like I said,,go to the Modern Muzzleloader site under the smokeless section and you'll LOVE it.
Those Yanks really love their Savage ML10's as do I !!
The only ML IMHO !!

Did you cut it into quarters before lugging it out?
