Browning X Bolt Early model 300 WSM And Tikka Same Cal One Will Kill Other Wont

Well the X Bolt has much lower felt recoil than the original T3, the rest is probably his imagination.

The moose had 5 shots in the vital area of the body by the Browning but they only penetrated the hide.
The second shooter brought it down with a shot with a 30-06.
I suggested he buy a 30-06.

I bet there is a tree with a nice 5 shot group in it next to that moose

Yeah, my experience says the T3X will kick harder than the X-Bolt (both good rifles though) but both will shoot the same cartridges about equally.

Sounds like someone decided to buy some Matchking or Berger VLD Target ammo and send 'em, expecting them to shoot like the Accubonds in a Tikka.

Might depend on the range they are impacting, 180gr cup/core out of a 300wsm will perform different at 20 yards vs 200 yards. Could be right at the explody velocity up close but perform fine out farther. Not much makes sense between it having anything to do with the guns, get him onto Nosler Partitions and he won't have any problems.

Maybe the twist is different and the browning doesn’t stabilized the bullet, making the bullet hitting the target some what side ways limiting the penetration and making the bullet fragment on impact?!?!?

I was talking to a gentleman who asked if I ever heard of this problem.
He has two 300 WSM rifles
Tikka in 300 WSM will kill animals with 180 grain bullet.
The same bullet in the Browning X Bolt, the bullets won't penetrate but go to pieces.
The Tikka has a lot of recoil when fired but the Browning has very little.
The Tikka rounds mushroom like a normal round but the Browning rounds fragment.

Any thoughts or experience with this problem?

Thanks
Al

A buddy of mine had a friend that said the same thing. He believes some guns don’t kill so he sold the bad one, it worked just fine for the guy that bought it. Make him an offer.

Recoil - the Tikka is a lighter rifle than the x-bolt so will kick like a horse! I've had Tikka's and can easily and painfully attest to that!

Difference in bullet performance - most likely a one off. Could depend on shot placement, distance. The x-bolt might have tighter chamber dimensions, twist rate which will increase pressure hence bullet velocity potentially... but I'm thinking there are other factors involved.

Recoil modifications can be made for that problem he should try a different bullet some guns just will not shoot certain bullets of certain weights, I have seen targets at the range where bullet went thru paper at 100 yard paper sideways? Heard he did find different components that worked worth a try.
