Thoughts on Savage 110 Tactical rifles

Hey guys, looking for feedback from guys who shoot these rifles. I shoot a Rem 783 HB in 6.5 CM and am happy with the rifle 's accuracy and reliability. I have tried it in an Oryx Chassis which was a so so experience. It was mostly to be able to use 10 round mags and to have a better platform for mounting a bipod. All my shooting is at the range and I really don't do a whole lot of it.

Now I am a lefty so have decided to find a lefty rifle that has a decent factory stock that won't need to be upgraded and accepts high cap AICS mags. So I see Savage offers the 110 Tactical in left hand and the cost is about the same as my 783 with a chassis but I can get all that left handed with the Savage. Thinking the Accustock/Accufit will be adjustable and rigid enough for the type and amount of shooting I do which is just recreational out to 1000m or so.

Stay away from Savage, their quality control and quality has gone to hell recently, bought a 110 recently and had a horrible experience. Last rifle I will ever buy sight unseen.
 
Yeah savage is generally not great. People will tell you they're super accurate, which is probably true, but it's a real gamble if yours is going to be good or a real pos. I'd establish a budget and share and then people can recommend something that will last. A left hand tikka ctr would be 1000000x better
 
I can't speak on the tactical model, but my experience of Savage with accustock has been all positive. An extended bolt handle from GladesArmory the only part I changed. Very accurate, reliable with zero issues,. It's become my go-to hunting rig

Not disagreeing with about posts...but mine has worked flawlessly since new and groups just fine.
I'm happy.

Have considered the Tikka varmint and CTR for sure. CTR mags are ridiculously priced and it seems most guys change the stocks on their Tikkas rigt away. I am trying to avoid that scenario..
 
If you do get a Savage that does have feeding , extraction and ejection issues ( a lot do ) , it's a really simple fix that requires $30 and 10 minutes worth of effort . Then it's flawless . It's really not a big deal . You might not need to do this , but , if you do , it's a super easy fix .

Agreed, the CTR mag prices are silly.

The Tikka Varmint & CTR stocks aren’t awesome, but are pretty stiff, somewhat modular and quite functional. I have a Tikka Varmint 223 that I’m setting up as a practice/club match rifle, and since I already use AICS mags in other rifles, I’m just going to switch out the bottom metal. Mountain Tactical sells AICS BM that is drop in for the CTR, and minor inletting on rifles w/ standard Tikka BM. Lots of aftermarket support for the Tikkas now.

There is a guy who makes 3d printed mags...mag3d.ca....about $35 each. Canadian outfit.

My friend got some for his CTR and they seem to work well.
 
I’ve owned probably 10 of the Savage 10/10TR rifles. Given, these were from a few years ago, but I never have had a problem with one, and I’ve never had one yet that wouldn’t shoot MOA with quality ammo or hand loads. (Easily MOA with hand loads). I buy one that I like and then the wife’s cousin wants an accurate rifle at a decent price and down the road it goes. I buy one - the nephew comes looking for a rifle. Then it’s an ex-military buddy of mine. Then the brother-in-law.

I always seem to have one around because they are a solid, accurate rifle that can be had at a decent price. Wound up with a southpaw son-in-law this last summer, so I guess I better start looking for a left hand one as well.

What fix would that be?
 
A few years ago, I ordered a 24” CTR. It took forever to show up. While waiting, I bought a Savage Stealth. My plan was to sell the Savage, but it shot so well that I still am using it, and declined the Tikka when it finally showed up. I have had zero troubles with the Savage, but my next rifle will be something else. Maybe full custom.

There is a kit available that includes a new extractor , ejector , ejector spring and detent ball . Typically , you replace the extractor ( the new one is a different shape ) , install the new detent ball , but , instead of installing the new ejector , you use the factory ejector with the new spring and you put a 45 degree bevel on the ejector . The whole process takes about 10 - 15 minutes . Now , the rifle will feed , extract and positively eject flawlessly every single time . Now the argument can certainly be made that you shouldn't have to do this , but , it's a super easy fix . Not a big deal at all and if this is the only reason for not buying the rifle , it might be something to reconsider . My new Savage Elite Precision suffered from this issue and now it's up there with the best of them .
 
For the money they are great Rifles, never had one I couldn't get to shoot better than MOA with handloads. They have had plenty of QC issues through the years so it's best to get one in hand before you actually put up the cash. The Extraction/Ejection is the only real common issue, and my first try when I had issues was call Savage (Westfield, Ma not Lakefield) who sent me all replacements for all the parts, just swapped out the ball and spring on the extractor and it was flawless after that.
 
Been a huge fan of Savage rifles for many years but as you can see, reviews are very mixed because QC is very mixed.

I would not run this action in mag feed games (ie PRS)... I will gladly run one for F class (and do) where you are single loading and can manual remove case from action.

The biggest reason I stay away from them now is that there are at least 3 firing pin spring set ups... I have no way to know what I am actually going to get in a new rifle cause the numbering is all the same (or worst.. LA and SA now share the same designations).

My actions are older and they work very well except the ejection which is really inconsistent... and the upgrades really haven't worked well for me.

If you want a single shot and can get the full length firing pin spring version, side bolt release, non accutrigger action... absolutely

For mag fed, Howa/Wby vanguard or T3 would get my attention unless you can take the Savage apart, determine what is inside and confirm it actually works

Over the last 25 years I have been shooting Savage rifles in competition and doing quite well! Out of the 7 I've owned ranging from .223 to 300WM, I've never had an issue with any of them. At this point the ones I have are sitting in MDT chassis and feed like a charm. I can't speak to their current QC but in the end, I guess it all comes to personal preference.
 
Mine is a 22-250 with accutrigger. I didn't realize for some time that mine came from the factory with the safety not working at all. After review I found that the trigger screws were totally out of place. I don't mind mine but it's the last savage I will buy. The triggers on the non accutrigger models are horrible. My son has one and even after adjustment I can't stand it.
