CQ311-- Norinco, should I do it?

got one !

I got one too, lucked out. I decided I should have a black rifle and they went on sale at Lever at the same time. Now if only the OPP would let me have it ! got a ref # on Dec 1, still no approval ! the guys at Lever laugh at me every time I phone to sse if it's approved yet. "yeah, we heard you have some problems in Ontario " If they only knew what a police state this is. Go over to GTAM.com and read about all the vehicle seizures for speeding, stunting etc. Looks like they want my guns AND my motorcycles ! I guess I just can't do anything "right "

Nork CQ311 is probably their best made rifle IMHO. The guts were very well made and finished. The exterior was a little rough but easy fixed with paint stripper and some Armacote. Nice and light, and very accurate. 1/12 twist so you are limited to 55g bullets, but that's all I generally shoot anyways. Throw some A1 furniture on it and you have a nostalgic Vietnam era M16 that you can shoot the piss out of without breaking the bank.

I got my cq311 a couple of days ago (registration certs arrived a few days before . about 2 weeks from order to delivery.
I was able to to get down the range for a quick tryout and was pleasantly suprised by the accuracy , although i was only shooting at 50 yd it was a tad cold . my very first group was under 1 inch with Privi partizan 55 grn ammo
so big happy bunny , now all i need to know is where i can get some nice A1 furniture to make a wannabe Nam m16 .:ar15::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

I understand that the $500 chinese rifle you reffer to is metric. Correct?
It's not impossible to put a CAR stock on that.

Maybe you can save some more money and buy
the chinese non-metric one (imperial)
which will probably get on the Canadian market
at about $850ish and sooner than you expect
(in a matter of weeks).
It will accept all the after-market parts you can think of.

So is there an $850 imperial version of the CQ311 on the market yet? Who was supposedly bringing these in? Is/was this new CQ311 the same type as mentioned on Wikipedia:
CQ 5.56mm Type A assault carbine
This variant introduced in the year 2006 in several Defense expos worldwide, including the MILIPOL, is a copy of the American M4A1 assault carbine.[5] It features a telescoping stock, a removable carrying handle mounted on a Picatinny rail, and a 368,3 millimetres (14,5 inches) barrel. The CQ Type A carbine variant is claimed to be able to stabilize both M193 "Ball" and SS-109/M-885 variants of the 5.56 mm cartridge, as would be expected from a rifle with a 1:9 barrel rifling twist.

I'm still interested. The downsides to the CQ311 weren't reliability, accuracy, or price. It was the metric threads, the 1:12 twist, the ugly finish, the 20" barrel and the integrated carry handle. The CQ 5.56 appears to address all that and if the retail price brand new is $850 then I'll order one today. What does a Stag cost? $1400? I'd like to drive a BMW, but I can only afford a Ford and realistically either one will get me from A to B.

I would just wait-out on that one. brand new rifles, like Armalites, you get a limited lifetime warrenty.

Keep saving it will pay off !!!
Point noted, but when a domestic rifle costs twice as much as a Chinese one, which works just as well and doesn't have a history of problems with that model, it's easy to justify taking the bargain.
