I think the LMG sales are down because people want the regular version, it'll be a while until there are enough around to lower the price. And if you look at pictures of both firing pins they are identical

Well if you’ve already made up your mind why ask the questions?

LMG is a novelty variant, it was an overpriced dressed up Type 81 fixed. Sales were probably never all that great for this reason alone, and you could see that long before we knew this batch of SE were released because of how many desperation sales retailers had, throwing in drum mags, making “final price drops”. It just never added up, paying a premium for an “LMG” that’s now clunkier, uglier, less ergonomic, and it still a semi auto with a long barrel which is pinned to the same 5 rounds as anything else.

As for the firing pin, still not sure where you’re going with that? Maybe you could use an AK firing pin? You still probably shouldn’t going off a visual analysis of a finely tuned piece of machining is stupid. Even if it was, which I doubt, because of literature I’ve read on the Type 81, you wouldn’t save any money or improve any sort of higher quality, the Type 81 was designed as an improvement, and the parts kit is readily available, containing an assortment of components that while you may never need, are proprietary and you now have a source of.

So why the frency last year when they came out? And sorry, no, they are not a dressed up SE.

There’s always a frenzy when these things came out, and a few months in and they’re the only type 81 you can regularly find on EE for less than retail. I got mine for far under retail, BNIB. I’m not saying it’s a bad rifle, it’s just not worth the price tag. Functionally you can’t tell me it’s any different other than the heavy barrel, but apart from that it’s just a fixed stock with an ugly bend and a bigger barrel.

For a heavier price tag.

That kind of info isn’t provided, they did mention likely 3rd or 4rth so your best bet is to check back each morning, the last batch took a good solid 24 hours to sell out so you’ve got a window.

if you want non optic ready (sold out in one day) then i suggest you go their website directly. http://www.tacticalimports.ca/ .

last time, they were 6 hrs late posting on CGN and 12 hrs late by email notifications.

staff dont get back to work till the 4th but they said they may start selling on the 3rd which means they can just flick the switch on.

So the non TI picatinny mounts will not be compatible with the optics ready version of the rifle? I see people wanting to convert their rifle from optics ready back into regular configuration, I doubt I will want to, I much prefer optics to irons but would it make more sense to opt for the regular version if the picatinny rail comes with the necessary parts? In order to have the parts for both configs? Or is that just making things harder on myself for no reason if I am quite sure I will want an optic on the rifle?

I will try to clarify.

Tactical Imports provides two different scope mounting kits. Both kits come with the same threaded hammer pin, trigger pin, and right side safety that come pre-installed on the Type 81 SE Optics Ready. The installation of these pins is the most painful part of the installation process, so having them pre-installed on the Optic Ready model is a definite bonus.

Both kits have rails that screw onto the threaded pins that have been installed in the receiver. Each kit's scope mount arm then slides onto the rail, and then a mechanism on the mount is flipped to tighten the mount to the rail.

The Kobra mount arm will not fit on the TI Picatinny mount side rail, and the TI Picatinny mount arm will not fit on the Kobra side rail. If one wants to switch between the TI Picatinny and Kobra mount, you need to unscrew one side rail and install the other mount arm's rail.

CGN Members have tried various eastern bloc scope mount arms on the TI Picatinny mount's side rail. To date, none have fit.

CGN Members have tried various eastern block scope mount arms on the Kobra side mount rail. Some have fit, including non-TI Picatinny side mount arms, and some have not fit. In deference to this being a sponsor's subforum, I will not directly link to those scope mount arms, but you can search on the Red Rifle Type 81 mod thread and the Kobra mount thread for more details.

If all you ever intended to use is Picatinny mounted scopes, the TI mount will work for you, though it is a bit canted to accommodate Type 81s with bent receivers.

If you intended to buy the Kobra Scope mount kit first, you may elect to get a third party Picatinny scope mount rail that fits the Kobra side rail instead of buying TI's 1913 rail.

If you're not sure which optic you want, but you want an optic for sure, get the optic ready version, as it simplifies installation greatly. If you prefer the left side safety for the fixed version, don't want an optic, or don't mind installing the pins yourself, feel free to get the non-optic ready version.

I forgot to mention one last option for serious do-it-yourselfers , the ones not afraid to drill into the receiver. People have drilled into the Type 81 receiver and then bolted on AK side rails. This is not for the faint of heart, and there are several YouTube videos on how to do this.

Is it still happening today?

My guess is tomorrow. Today is likely a day-in-lieu of New Year's Day for the TI administration staff, so I doubt they would want to bring them in a day early and pay overtime. Shipment 2 of the first and maybe only SE production run can wait one more day before it sells out :p

I just hope I don't miss it, personally. I've missed the last few drops, and I really really really REALLY don't want to pay the scalpy prices that'll inevitably pop up on the EE and #######.
#### scalpers. (I'm not talking about people reselling for what they paid taxes and shipping in, I'm talking about the opportunists who buy 10 of these then put em up with a bunch of fire emojis. That makes my eyes roll back so far I can see my gray matter.)

My desktop is telling me TI's site is not secure and don't enter any info if you don't want it stolen
someone has hacked in to harvest all your CC and PAL info
