Stag AR10

The Stag-10/BCL102/Troy102 etc were based on the AR102 which predated the AR-10(which were restricted by name) so they got their own NR FRT.

All other AR-10's of the modern DPMS/SR25/Armalite designs were restricted by name.

The kicker is...... the Stag-10 was approved NR during the Liberals majority government..... then they turned around and suddenly claim it as an AR variant and banned it by name.
It is my firm belief that the liberals collaborated with individuals at the rcmp run firearms lab and allowed the approval of 100,000's of thousands if not millions of dollars of new firearms deemed NR by the lab , during Trudeau's majority. Only to be banned later and the banning used as a tool to bankrupt and financially ruin both gun owners and the businesses that serve them.

I think this stag 10 had a 18.75 inch to 20 inch barrel but I can't remember why it was non-restricted I have to look that up after but the rest of the AR-10s were restricted just because of name I believe someone will come and correct me anyway

Before the Gun Ban did the AR-10 have a certain barrel length which made it non-restricted.

Yes. From the Criminal Code s.84:
restricted firearm means

(b) a firearm that

(i) is not a prohibited firearm,

(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and

(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,

As a semi-automatic, centrefire rifle, a Stag AR-10 would have been restricted unless the barrel was 470mm or longer.

I don't think you're too far off with your belief. There was a lot of NR approvals under this regime and I had a feeling that it was too good to be true.

But on a positive note they don't know where any of them are.

.

And that part tells me approving them wasn't some sort of conspiracy.

There's a lot of very capable rifles out in the wild now.

The Stag 10 NR classification was a fluke ruling for sure. That one could have easily received a Restricted classification and nobody would have questioned it. If it was marketed in the US as well it would have been Restricted.

The correct mindset for the stag is to have it removed from the prohibited list. It has no business being there. They use that platform for conservation in the Yukon. It's hands down the best hunting platform. You can change medium calibers for specific game without fuss. The parts are common and available. Semi for a faster second shot. Magazines are perfect for protecting ammo. Mounting a scope or optic isn't some stupid mind-game by a terrible gun counter clerk, just throw it on the pik rail and zero. Not to mention it has perfect application for all other recreational use like 3gun, prs and maybe even service rifle competition.

They only want these firearms in the hands of government agents. Not us mere peasants.

Unacceptable to be moved to prohibited or restricted.

I agree the reclassification to prohibited is a damn shame. It was the best NR low cost option we've had in Canada for decades. Banned by name now via OIC probably for eternity... But let's not fool ourselves, for all intents and purposes the rifle is a LR308. If you can cut the upper at a different angle and call it a new gun and get a NR classification...more power to you!

At this point I just hope there is not another round of bans via OIC when we get close to the end of the amnesty date for the May 2020 ban.

Oh the Stag 10. Those were the days where you could buy the $600 receiver set and build an AR-10 to however you wanted (with a 18.7" barrel of course).
