Recommend me a Semi Auto 22

Marlin 795 Stainless , accuracy out of the box

I have a lot of fun with the Nork sa22 clones that you can find presently for $179 bucks.
They are NOS from the 80's, covered in whale oil or some####, really gross out of the box and require complete tear down cleaning, wood is dry as a bone too and needs some BLO love on the inside.
But so light and handy, and 100% reliable after, just a really neat 100+ year old design that is solid steel everything, accurate as hell. Always wanted a Browning version but not at Browning prices.

What's your favorite semi auto 22?

I've owned a few and feel like I need one in my collection, my problem is that I find them boring to shoot when compared to a AR.

I've had multiple Ruger 10/22s - stock, tactical, and pimped out versions that always seemed to be ok. The problem is the lack of a 25 round magazine is lame.
I've had GSG 16s, Savages, and Marlins but I keep getting rid of them because they just seem to not be fun shooting off a bench.

All of them were pretty cool, but nothing really stood out.

I'm looking for something semi auto, reliable, decently accurate, and that looks cool.

If you had a budget of $1200, what would you get?

It sounds like you've had your fill of 22lr's and just don't really like them that much. Whatever you buy will just end up being sold.

OP - I haven't read ALL of this thread but Search show no-one has suggested CZ-512. I don't have one but there are a few left on-line CDN vendors, about $800 or so. A step above those you seem to have tried.
I have a Marlin-60 2014 Mayfield in Laminate, it does ca 3/4" @ 50. I have a couple 'bubba-spee-d-loader's of vinyl tube and .308 cases - 240 rounds for 45-second reloads.

Just buy a remington 597, a few 22rd Promag mags (don't buy the large capacity remington mags) and spend the rest on a whole lot of ammo.

Mine runs great, no issues at all and accurate for a semi.

My favorite was my krinker plinker

I still kick myself for selling it. Never had a jam and was like a tank. The new Kriss 22 8" I picked up will hopefully fill the void, it's very nice. I had the 9"gsg16 but it was too cheap feeling, it felt like a cheap airsoft gun.

Yeah, but that's a prohib (Not that anyone care)

I still remember the Calico been offered in the SIR catalog

I had one in the 1980s but it was confiscated a couple of months after I have bought it, very fun gun to shoot, 100 round mag is really great.

Ya, I get bored of guns and will buy, sell, and trade many away for something different. I do the same with tools. Why keep something that isn't being used?

I do like the CZ 512. I do have CZ 455s so the cool thing is that the magazines are all compatible. That rifle is on my radar, the trouble is I'm thinking "What if CZ releases a new Rimfire like the CZ 600 series?"

I like the Marlin Model 60 and would like one of those but I'd like a fancy model like the one in your picture or a stainless model like in another picture in this thread. Sadly, I dont know if we will ever see another Model 60 now that Marlin is a Ruger company.

Any love for Savage/Lakefield Model 64's?

I have the takedown 64, bought it for fly and boat in fishing trips, upgraded the pot metal trigger with a machined aluminum mcarbo. Only weak part on the rifle, well I guess the mags have had issues but so far so good with mine, it runs everything including CCI quiet semi rounds. Not my favorite .22 but being a takedown it does the job well, and you could buy 2 for the price of a 1022 takedown.

Yes Rev - I was lucky getting a NIB 2014 in Spring 2018, right after I retired. Fellow had bought it and never got a chance to go out - worked at Airport UPS/FEDEX/PURO hub and was 'too busy'. It came with a box of MM and a Barska 3-9x40 rimfire scope. Now I've got a Tasco 4-12x40 AO and have done all Arrowdodger mods, getting the trigger down about 2# or so. There's a SS-795 on EE right now and Marlin 60s appear now and then.
EDIT ! The 795 is NOT SS, the pic looked 'shiny' - Used but looks nice and only $200 + shpg.

One need not always buy new.

...

I really like these rifles too, just finished slicking and refinishing mine. Everyone who shoots it now really likes it, they just feel different from the rest of the 22s out there.

But the OP can fit a new Miroku-production Browning SA22 into his budget, lucky guy! Or a nice old Belgian made version, which would probably be my choice...

Where are the Norinco clones available at $179 currently?
