Recommend me a Semi Auto 22

For a nice looking rifle and as good a shooter as you will find, and not just another 1022, a Marlin 60 stainless in laminate stock. Nicest looking .22 semi every made in my opinion. Good rifle too.

Nope! Never owned one, and won't ever. My father in law bought one, and it is a nightmare to take apart. Poor engineering is the detriment to lots of rifles, and in my opinion, the model 60 is just lazy engineering.

Here's a good video comparing it to the Ruger 10/22. I own a really nice threaded barrel DAR22, and it is a dream to shoot AND disassemble. The Marlin Model 60 looks ALMOST as bad as the old Remington Model 550-1 to take apart and reassemble. Those that own or had one of those, know what I'm talking about. My advice to anyone buying a 22, is to watch disassembly/re-assembly videos on anything that you want to buy first to see if it's a good design, or it is going to be a nightmare to clean. You will have to do it at some point, even with a semi-auto 22.

If you like old school looking walnut and blued steel, a nice Winchester Model 63 is a great option. Here's a picture of the 4 of mine that I took out today for another thread.

Another would be an Old Mossberg 152. Short, light and the engineering on them is really great. Rear of the receiver has a nut on it that you can remove, then you can pull the bolt assembly right out, without taking anything down on the rifle for cleaning.

There are probably others, but that's off the top of my head.

Cheers,

Ian

What's your favorite semi auto 22?

I've owned a few and feel like I need one in my collection, my problem is that I find them boring to shoot when compared to a AR.

I've had multiple Ruger 10/22s - stock, tactical, and pimped out versions that always seemed to be ok. The problem is the lack of a 25 round magazine is lame.
I've had GSG 16s, Savages, and Marlins but I keep getting rid of them because they just seem to not be fun shooting off a bench.

All of them were pretty cool, but nothing really stood out.

I'm looking for something semi auto, reliable, decently accurate, and that looks cool.

If you had a budget of $1200, what would you get?

BROWNING. Semi-Auto or Buckmark...the rest is JUNK.

Felicitations !!

Hey Rev - Congrats on your new baby !!!
Looks like you got a good one, just like you were looking for ;)
I had similar luck back in '17, got a NIB 2014 Laminate with a 3-9x40 Barska Rimfire scope and a box of MM all for $250.
Hope you get some good weather to let 'er stretch her legs . . .
Enjoy,
Buck

Marlin 60 is great - so is the Nylon 66. Both very reliable and tube fed the way a 22LR is meant to be.

For something ultra modern: the winchester wildcat is the way to go. Completely field strippable. Two alan keys stored in the trigger group to field adjust the aperture sights. Last shot hold open, and you can clean it from the breech. Also takes 10/22 mags if that's your thing.

Where can we get these in Canada?

A number of Canadian retailers show them as out of stock, so that *should* mean they are already here. However, I haven't seen a single range report and I'm thinking they might still be vapourware. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong...
