Why does the 336 play 2nd fiddle to the 94?

For me & many others, the Model 94 carries better & handles sweeter, has an easier to tune trigger and a sleek look compared to the 336's. I do like the ease of bolt removal on the Marlin for cleaning though. The Micro Groove rifling of the earlier Marlins was not well suited for us folks that shoot cast boolits either.

Had plenty of both types over the years and I stick with the Win 94 & 92 rifles.

336 is so much easier to clean and scope. Also the first centrefire rifle I bought myself, I’m sentimental too I guess because I prefer it.

Now the 1892, there’s a gun…
 
I grew up in the 1960’s watching John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Chuck Connors, Steve McQueen and the 1894 seemed to have all of the cool factor.

Fast forward to the present when Jurassic Park and Wind River featured the 1895 SBL or Guide Gun Big Loop… :evil:

The rest is history. Ha hah aa ha :nest:

I don’t usually clean my guns or put scopes on levers so I’ll stick with the 94. Much nicer to carry with the svelte receiver and I don’t like pistol grip stocks.
 
336 is a superior design in every way, esthetically its prettier too.

336 comes in both straight stock and monte carlo.
 
I’ll give you the straight stock.

And now that I’m thinking about it the 336 I had never wore a scope. We have to consider the needs of our average elderly hunting and sporting member though :dancingbanana:

I’d take the 1892 over both of them, lasted a lot longer in my safe than either
 
Browning drew it 50 years earlier. One is a classic western rifle. The other is simply a very nice rifle in the style of a classic western rifle. How is this a question?

Marlin had the 1984. But you're right, the 336 design came out in 1948 so although from an engineering aspect it has 50 years of design improvements, it would be inaccurate to use it in any old western film. This gives the win94 the advantage for nostalgia. Both post64 win94s and remlins are worth less than the older models.

Well the precursor to the 336 (and 36) is the 1893 which came out in, well, 1893. Basically the same gun but with a dust cover like their current 1894.

Pretty much the only marlin id pick over a Winchester

I don't know about that. I found with the M94 handloads in 110 and 150 grain attained very good accuracy at 100 yards. Not fussy about Micro Groove rifling that even Marlin more recently started to abandon in the 30-30.
Every Marlin I seen only shot 170 grain bullets to an acceptable degree. A quirck of Micro Groove?? I don't know.
