I've read about people doing this but don't understand the advantage. If I were to get a CX4 is there any big motivating factor to getting a new barrel and having it classified as non-restricted?

For shooting gophers or cans........plinking. Fewer restrictions on storage and transport.

It's just less hassle, I woud not own a restricted one.....when the nonny is only a tad longer anyways.

I've never owned a non-restricted so I don't know much about the transportation and storage differences except you don't need an ATT for a non-restricted. Anyone care to highlight storage and transportation of a non-restricted?

If I buy a CX4 can I get the longer barrel and re-classify it myself to non-restricted or do I have to buy it and have Epps make it non-restricted before they ship it off to me?

Also, I read it was costing something $475 plus tax just to get the extra barrel??

Thats a BIG expense, does anyone know where the cheapest place to get a CX4 is??

Cause the barrel needs to be custom made as there is no aftermarket barrel for it.
I heard wolverine has some cheap cx4. u can try to contact them

Anyone other than Epps offering longer barrels for the CX4??

Also can I buy the CX4 and then reclassify it somewhere down the road on my own when I finally get a longer barrel?

I looked into this a few months ago.. the smith told me that i would also have to forfeit the restricted barrel. You cant go have both. This doesnt sound right to me so I have held off.

when i talked to epps they told me i can keep the restricted barrel, just u cannot quite do barrel swap without the gunsmith barrel tools

Epps seems to be having problems getting in new barrel blanks, I have been waiting since August for my .40cal to be modified.

Any ideas on what sort of tools are needed or where I can get a crash course in this sort of thing?

I would take it to a gunsmith but I believe it couldn't possibly be that difficult, like these authorized Glock armourers, it's a half day course.. I figured out how to swap my own extractor, mag release, trigger etc. etc. no problem with articles from the internet and a simple $4 tool.

I had to make my own tool for cx4 barrel. I tell you it wasn't an easy job although tool itself isn't very complicated thing. I had to machine 3/4" pipe (about 14" long) down to size that will fit over barrel and inside the upper. The very tip that grabs the nut has had to be machined sseparately and welded on to the pipe. I spoke to Barry at Bits of Pieces and he himself made identical tool. So, although swapping barrel isn't a rocket science I think extra 50-60 bucks that Barry charges for replacement is worthwhile expence. I think he sells barrels for like 340$ and with installation 390$ - check it yourself. Installing new barrel you will have to watch how deep it will sit because Beretta's plastic is fairly soft and nut will not be felt very tight while barrel may be sucked in way too deep and gun will not cycle properly.

You can unrestrict your Beretta at any time, the only thing is you will have to verify your new barrel lenght, Barry at Bits of Pieces is verifier by the way. And yes you will have to part with your restricted barrel unfortunately.
