Earlier in the thread somewhere I mentioned that I had a few things in the works. I really love shooting this rifle, and hope I can open the aftermarket for everyone.

As for more details, I'll keep things light.

The charging handle is extended, and it's no drill.

The selector switch is ambidextrous and has the same throw as an AR (could maybe throw a 45deg together in the future as well).



It has for now, but before I move forward I'll have to test it pretty extensively. I've got a 500rd case coming in and I plan to use all of it on the aluminum version of the handguard to verify that things hold up. Going to do some drop testing as well.

If anyone is located near Niagara and wants to try it out/let me install it on their rifle to test the tolerances of Norinco from rifle to rifle, please dm me! The more the merrier.

Oh man if that safety gets made, with a 45-60 degree throw like an AR, I’d be all over these rifles and your parts!

From an article in Guns and Ammo, as found at redstararms.com, http://www.redstararms.com/type81.pdf there's a picture of a rear-sight block mounted rail with an Eotech. This appears similar to a prototype someone on Reddit made,https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/pdmh92/my_custom_type_81_rifle_and_my_in_progress_lmg/ , but they Redditor has not replied back about the status of making this mount when I messaged him. Perhaps some industrious CGNer can create a similar mount?

Could you just auger out a fixed type 81 stock and add a riser and butt pad? i imagine the recesses for the cleaning kit and such would cause some issues.

i hear ya.. Just something i thought about. Wonder if there are any unmolested type 81 fived butt stocks floating around? could be a fun project

China and the USSR were adversaries for most of the Cold War. Technology transfer ceased after the 1950s. So using a warsaw pact rail was not really an option. Probably why they opted to develop a proprietary optical sight and mount for the type 81:

More recently China did develop a modernized optic mount for the type 81. Seen here on a Type 81 LMG

i thought they captured some tools during the sino vietnam war and could have just copied the svd or scope mount like they did with their own dragunov using chinese scope svd mount and 308 caliber ...
