Even "worse" - when I was growing up in 1960's, the thought was that a 4 power fixed scope was "okay" for a deer rifle - a 6 power was "too much" for the deer hunting that we did. Variable power, then, was a real "curiosity" and not actually trusted, much. Was long ago, though.
To kill a deer, have to usually put a bullet into or through an area about size of soccer ball / basket ball - anywhere in that area and the deer is dead. Do not have to hit a particular hair, or the eye-ball.
Looking here - the CZ Scout has fixed 4x Rimfire scope, 458 Win Mag has fixed 2.5x Leupold Ultralight, 9.3x62 has M8-3x Leupold, 338 Win Mag has M8-6x, the 7.62 AIA has fixed 12x SWFA, the CG63 has fixed M8-12x Leupold, a No. 4 in 303 British has a Weaver K3, and so on. Although others do have variable power scopes. And some have aperture sights.
