That could only look better if the scope was glossy. I keep thinking about the m77 and that I don't have one... a nice international in 250, 257, 7mm-08 or 280 with a small scope in QR rings. Is it just me or is the Ruger 77 under rated/just under represented? The bluing I've seen on them has always been very deep.
I was questioning this lack sometime last year and apparently pedantic old traditionalists like me are an insignificant market share. I would argue that we really aren't, just the perception of consumers have changed from what they really need to what they think they need. The consequence is poorly informed people who think they need a scope for hunting <100y whitetail. This has also resulted in so few rifles having open sights (and that market being so small now)... same people think whitetail hunting is a snipers game and show up with ridiculous contraptions on their rifles. Well, if it's what you really want I don't care but the market is being ruined by inadequate thought in the same way democratic process is impaired by the galactically stupid. (the later isn't comparable really I know, it is a travesty) Actually I am glad these large choices exist: they are useful in other areas and can double here if that is the only option for someone.
About the only one I'm aware of that still manufactures a decent scope of this size is Leupold. But I think they wrapped up the VX 1,2,3 into the "Freedom" line? Non are glossy tube anymore.
Past manufacturers used to be everyone. I'm glad to have samples from Leupold, Bushnell, Nikon, (Old steel) Weaver fixed K4s so it has been reduced mostly to a used market at the moment. Burris apparently still makes the Scout 2-7x. Vortex makes the low end lines in that size (but I wouldn't get a Vortex that is less than the Viper). Not sure the origin of the Burris Scout but baseline to me is it better be made in Phillipines, Japan, NA or Europe... never been satisfied with a scope from China.
